The Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks will take place over both sides of Manhattan on Saturday in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The 50th rendition of the July 4th show will kick off at 8 p.m. on Saturday from barges on both the Hudson River and the East River. The fireworks spectacle itself is expected to begin at 9:25 p.m. A total of 85,000 shells in 30 colors will be launched from the barges, along with a new laser show from the Brooklyn Bridge.

“We are proud to celebrate our 50th anniversary with a once in a generation experience filled with emotional storytelling and signature spectacle to connect millions of people nationwide,” said Sharon Otterman, chief marketing officer for Macy’s, in a statement.

The firework barges are all located in Lower Manhattan, but it does mean Upper West Siders can get a view of the show from Riverside Park.

If you’d rather watch the show from home, it will air on NBC and Peacock from 8 to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Here are the music stars slated to perform as part of the Macy’s 4th of July show.

  • Terry Crews (Host)
  • Alexia Jayy
  • Noah Kahan
  • Post Malone
  • Bebe Rexha
  • Salt-N-Pepa
  • Shaboozey
  • Blake Shelton

Love Macys, I used to go there on my lunch hour for 15 years when I worked 4 blocks away. Wish I could still go but their perfumes sent me to the hospital a few times . So I can’t go there anymore. I even asked them to get air purifiers but no. And no I won’t order online .

What about their racial profiling history? Eli Northrup, a public defender won the Democratic primary for AD 69 and the parade is partly in his district and Macy’s bigoted and hurtful legacy is not something talked about or anyone wants to talk about.

Macy’s has a record of racial and ethnic profiling that must not be ignored. UWS residents pride themselves on progressive values, but when it comes to Macy’s history of discrimination and even racial and ethnic bias going on at their events, they do not care.

Of course we don’t care; most don’t shop there either. Nor do most care about their silly parades or burning chemical compounds in the air as entertainment (Seriously, once you’ve seen fireworks once, aged 5, it’s all downhill from there.) At some point people grow up and have things to do.

Time to find another thing to harp and be an activist about.

You’re both so sad — make Debbie Downer look and sound like Pangloss. Go rain on someone else’s parade.

The first time you posted this on Thanksgiving, many years ago, you wrote as if it was something had happened at the balloon inflation that year. When several of us asked what happened, not only did you NOT reply, but another account berated us for asking you about it. Why complain repeatedly about the same thing in a public forum and not share what the issue was/is?

Why are you sticking up for Macy’s so much? Why is there such an obsession when they get called out? Is there a large number of UWS residents who work for Macy’s and willing to stick up for them?

Sounds like a lot of people simply don’t know what the issue is. Vaguely mentioning “ record of racial and ethnic profiling” without providing any details isn’t helpful. I’m not saying there isn’t or wasn’t a problem, but I need more that an assertion from a random stranger to make up my mind for myself.

If the elected officials were a lot more responsive especially now with Mamdani as the mayor no one would be litigating this in the comments section of West Side Rag.

Like stated above that was 13 yrs ago. So you don’t recognize their change or are they just not allowed to be forgiven as they’ve gotten better? Recognize the change & embrace those who change their ways. Otherwise you make it easier for hate to exist.

What 50th anniversary is Macy’s celebrating?

“Macy’s is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular. First launched in 1976 as a special celebration for the U.S. Bicentennial, this year’s event coincides with the nation’s 250th birthday, prompting Macy’s to host an extra-large, multi-river display across New York City and New Jersey.”

I’m so disappointed. I’m finally in the area on the East River where they usually have fireworks & this year they moved them downtown… I’m so disgusted. Dammit every single time they make this event bigger they take it away from where they usually have the barges & go downtown or to the west side. Come on guys. You’re pulling everyone downtown. Midtown with the FDR are easy viewing areas for people. Why not there as well as the tip of Manhattan & the Hudson Midtown! Views from Jersey are good as well as from Queens on the other side. Cramming everyone downtown… What a friggin nightmare…

When it comes to a corporate actor like Macy’s and getting local leaders to listen, you have to hire Kasirer or Bolton St. John’s for them to care. There have been issues with Macy’s and their events that have been so bad, if I had the money to do that, I would hire one of these firms or another firm like them and not be commenting here. Mamdani is the mayor now, people who he has endorsed on the UWS won their Democratic primaries, if they really cared, they would tell us to call their office and help.

So basically one has to go below 14th street to see anything on both sides of Manhattan. Not nice.

Is it just me or are all those viewing locations in NJ? Are there viewing locations in Manhattan?

I will say, having lived in Hoboken for a year (many years ago), the fireworks are indeed spectacular from that side of the river positioned against the Manhattan skyline. But now I live on the civilized side of the river 🙂

Their website says fhe Hudson Eiver viewing locations are all in Jersey. I’ll give you that you could see them from Battery Park or Brookline Square but Roverside Park seems doubtful.

All the entry points listed for access are actually in NJ, just so people know. Anybody know where to access from the NY side?

I don’t know why they are only listing the viewing sites from NJ. It will be just as accessible to see on the NY side. Battery Park City would be great

Used to shop M. when lovely, affordable mdse. for average workers, including Social Worker me. Then ownership changes led to Designer names & climbing prices over & over. Took my sad self elsewhere.
