An Upper West Side McDonald’s unexpectedly closed permanently over the weekend.
The McDonald’s at 2726 Broadway, between West 104th and 105th streets, shuttered on October 31, according to a sign on its door.
“This location will be closing permanently on October 31, 2026,” the poster reads. “We thank you for your business and we invite you to visit us at our other McDonald’s.”
There are multiple McDonald’s still open on the Upper West Side, including at 2549 Broadway, between West 95th and 96th streets, along with an outpost at 2049 Broadway, off the corner of West 71st Street. There is also a McDonald’s at West 125th Street and Broadway.
It is unclear why the McDonald’s closed so abruptly. The fast food chain did not immediately respond to West Side Rag’s request for comment.
The McDonald’s at 2726 Broadway has been open since at least 2009, but the Rag was unable to confirm its exact opening year. If anyone in the comments knows the answer to that one.

I saw them taking the sign down on Friday morning. I was thinking that they were just replacing it. I hope the staff got relocated.
Yay ! Great news for the block.
Another empty storefront is “good news?”
How is another vacant store front “great news”?
GLP1 , general health awareness among the young, illegal street vending, $15 “value” meal, rents, $20 minimum wage, atrocious service. Welcome to the future.
I am sorry but what? I don’t think GLP-1s are a reason why a McDonalds is closing. And people have been well aware of healthy eating for decades and decades – there is a reason why McDonalds added a salad years ago. I think it is more increased competion from other fast food or casual dining places.
They should close the one on 71st and Amsterdam!
Hear, hear. I recently stepped inside that one for a snack and it was so crowded and loud that I just turned around and left. It just felt unsafe, for lack of a better word. You really start to understand why there was so much crime in that one, including the shooting a few years ago.
I agree, plus make it something that won’t appeal to a young after-school crowd! Speaking of which, Cafe 71, right across the street was having a lot of issues with the overflow of kids from McDonalds, and then Covid happened. It’s such a good space but I haven’t been over there lately. Does anyone know if it’s still vacant?
I am not in favor of empty store fronts, but this McDonalds will not be missed by their neighbors. This store installed extremely loud fans on their roof in the rear of the building, and neighbors have been filing noise complaints and trying to get the owners to stay within legal decibel limits for decades. They actually put up sound baffling that helped somewhat in perhaps 2010 or 2011, but then it was damaged by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and never repaired in the subsequent 14 year.
When I saw the headline, I was so hoping it would be the one on my corner (71/Broadway). No such luck.
Thank god! As much as I as I don’t want to see empty storefronts, the crowd there has been creating a lot of trouble.
It appears to have opened in 2006.

Nothing lost here. I just hope the staff can be relocated.
