National HLAA Leaders Discuss Advocacy, Public Policy and the Future of Hearing Loss Support

What is the Hearing Loss Association of America doing at the national level to improve life for people with hearing loss — and where should its efforts go next?
At the September 15 virtual meeting of the New York City Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), HLAA Executive Director Barbara Kelley will discuss the work of the national organization, including its efforts in public policy, advocacy and support for people with hearing loss.
Kelley will offer an inside look at HLAA’s work on Capitol Hill and with federal agencies including the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The meeting will also give attendees an opportunity to bring their own questions, comments and priorities directly to HLAA’s national leadership: What issues should HLAA be pursuing on behalf of people with hearing loss?
Kelley has a long history with HLAA, beginning her career with the organization as editor of its magazine. Over several decades, her published work has helped establish terminology, change attitudes and influence policy and legislation in the hearing health care field. She has served as HLAA’s CEO since 2016 and is the organization’s primary spokesperson, overseeing all of its programs. She also serves on several boards and coalitions, including the NIH Council of Councils, which advises the NIH director on policy matters including disability health.
Joining Kelley will be Dan Reiner, HLAA’s director of communications and marketing, and Melissa Kruse, HLAA’s chapter engagement manager. Reiner brings 20 years of nonprofit communications experience, including work with the National Geographic Society and National Council on Aging. Kruse has more than 20 years of experience with nonprofit organizations, national political operations, large-scale events and volunteer-driven membership organizations. At HLAA, she helps local leaders build strong, connected communities and develops resources to support chapter success.
Together, the three national staff members will bring the NYC Chapter news from HLAA and discuss how the national organization and its chapters can work together on behalf of people with hearing loss.

Can anyone recommend good inexpensive hearing aids. I see so many on line for sale don’t know if they are any good.
