The New York State Democratic Party has opened a base of operations on the Upper West Side for the upcoming General Election this November.
The field office opened last week at 2740 Broadway, between West 105th and 106th streets, in the former home of the popular Silver Moon Bakery, which has a new storefront a few blocks away.
While the office was locked and empty when West Side Rag visited Friday morning, most of the signage inside and outside the store was for Gov. Kathy Hochul’s re-election campaign, which is running with former New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams as Lieutenant Governor.
Hochul is facing off against Republican Bruce Blakeman, who currently serves as Nassau County Executive.
Other signs inside the field office included Assemblymember Micah Lasher, who is the Democratic nominee for the Congressional District 12 seat, and Eli Northrup, the Democratic candidate to succeed Lasher in his Assembly seat.
Lasher is up against Republican nominee Caroline Shinkle and multiple independent candidates in NY-12 this November, while Northrup is currently the lone candidate on the ballot for his race in the General Election.
“Great to be at the new @nydems field office opening on the Upper West Side last night,” Lasher wrote about the opening of the Upper West Side campaign office. “Incredible energy — so many neighbors ready to do the work that wins elections. We need to re-elect @kathyhochulny, elect Democrats up and down the ballot, and win back the House.”
Most recently, the old Silver Moon Bakery storefront was used as Northrup’s campaign headquarters.
The New York State Democratic Party has opened field offices in Jamaica, Queens, and Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn.

Many Mamdani voters have behaved in incredibly insensitive and alienating ways towards Jewish New Yorkers, and they are a crucial voting block in New York – Hochul is well aware of this.

Being a Democrat doesn’t mean supporting the DSA. My family has been Democrat voters for almost a century, but wrong is wrong and this evil must be stopped. I’m voting for him vs her not the party.

Do you even know what the DSA candidates stand for? Everything that the Democratic Party supported for a long time. Equity, opportunity for everyone rather than just the rich, social safety nets, progressive taxation.

You’re right, and you’re wrong. Voter turnout is so important and if the weather is bad or for some other reason a larger percentage of people don’t vote, really unpleasant surprises can happen. Hochul specifically is losing her big lead so even if the other races aren’t at much risk, hers certainly is.
The problem with Democrats is that they take voters for granted.
I rarely see any blacks and minorities in their rallies.
All you see is a bunch of faux progressive people who think that they are morally superior to everyone who isn’t like them culturally and aren’t in their in group. I was on the UWS when Biden won Pennsylvania in 2020, there were people cheering and building community, but if you weren’t a white progressive, you weren’t welcome to join in on the fun and were left out. I saw this.

Would you like to provide some evidence that the Democratic Party supports Hamas? Concern about the Palestinians, opposition to Netanyahu, or even opposition to the existence of Israel, is not the same as supporting Hamas.

Blakeman has been trying to be more MAGA than Drumpf. It may play well Upstate, but it does not play well in NYC – even in parts of Long Island. He is digging his own political grave.
Shouldn’t the sign say Democeatic socialists party? Time for a reality check.
Actually, the in-fighting now is between the “establishment” wing of the Party – which this storefront represents – and the DS wing of the Party. And while the establishment wing will remain in power for at least a while longer, the DS (and other non-establishment) wing is ascendant, and recent polls show that more than 50% of all Democrats now want a change in the upper power structure of the Party – not necessarily to DS, but definitely not “Republican light.”
Keep in mind that it is all a question of who can win elections. If the Democrats see that Schumer, Booker et al can still help Democrats win elections, then they will remain. But what is happening is that DS, and other non-establishment Democrats, are the ones winning elections nationwide, and helping others to do so.
The National socialists and democrat socialists believe eerily similar things and neither belong in the Democratic Party. They should start a third party.

Silver Moon is now happily in a larger and more commodious space a few blocks away with outdoor seating that is often full. What are you waxing so nostalgic about?

It’s not “between 105th and 106th streets.” It’s on the corner of 105th, no “between” anything.
Hold the Line! If UWS falls below 80% Blue Team there’s no limit to the ills that will befall all of us.
As a Democrat, I say may Hochul become a distant nightmare. New Yorkers don’t enjoy a recall clause, so getting rid of the rot of what’s become of the DSA-DNC insane alliance is a must.
