August 28th through 30th

“Meet the Fleet” in Riverside Park at West 95th Street on Saturday, August 29th from 10 a.m. to noon; free

Meet Riverside Park staff members and explore the fleet of vehicles they can often be seen slowly and carefully driving within the park. Conservancy operations team members will talk about sustainability initiatives with the park and how the team advances them. This family event is part of Riverside Park Conservancy’s “Summer on the Hudson” series of free community programming.

Go to the US Open!

The best tennis players in the world are competing for over $100 million, and it’s just a subway ride away from the UWS! Saturday’s the last day of the fun and free US Open Fan Week – you just have to register for a free Fan Pass to get in. (Registration for Fan Passes was briefly paused last week, but they are once again available.)

Once you’re there, watch the world’s top players practicing before they begin the main singles tournament Sunday. You can also take part in family activities, grab a free limited-edition Marvel comic book, or treat yourself to a $23 Honey Deuce – the signature cocktail of the Open. More family-friendly fare (burgers, chicken nuggets, salads, smoothies and more) is also available.

Starting Sunday, a paid ticket will be required. Check out our 2026 UWS Guide to the U.S. Open for everything you need to know before you go.

Visit the Nicholas Roerich Museum: Open Saturday & Sunday from noon to 5 p.m, and Tuesday to Friday from noon to 4 p.m.; 319 West 107th Street (between Broadway and Riverside Drive); free

Roerich, a Russian-born artist whose paintings have sold for millions at auction, is the subject of an intimate museum many UWSers pass by without noticing. He was not only a painter, he was also creator of sets for Stravinsky, and worked in myriad media. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1929, and counted Einstein, Gandhi, and Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt among his friends. Learn more about him and check out his work in this charming limestone-trimmed rowhouse. It’s free!

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
