A New York Knicks ticker-tape parade for kids will happen Wednesday on the Upper West Side.
The Children’s Museum of Manhattan will host the championship celebration at 4 p.m. on West 83rd Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam, which is one day before New York City’s official parade on Thursday.
“New York City’s youngest fans deserve a celebration made especially for them — scheduled and structured with our littlest New Yorkers at the center,” David Schub, the CEO of the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, said in a news release. “That’s what CMOM does. We bring the city’s biggest moments to its smallest fans.”
Families across the city have expressed disappointment that the official Knicks parade will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, which is both during school hours and in the midst of the New York State Regents Examinations. Mayor Zohran Mamdani has confirmed that he cannot cancel school for the day, and a spokesperson for the Department of Education has stated that the agency cannot make changes to the Regents test schedule, according to Gothamist.
The Children’s Museum is hosting its parade after school hours. The Grand Marshals for the parade will be actor and comedian Amy Schumer and author Jessica Seinfeld.
Here is some of the event programming to expect.
- Performance by Uncommon School Drumline
- NYC-themed dance party
- Confetti cannons, life-sized Knicks players cutouts, and blue and orange foam sticks for attendees
- Arts and crafts & face painting
The West 83rd Street block, between Broadway and Amsterdam, will be closed down for the parade.
The parade will take place outside of the Children’s Museum of Manhattan at 212 West 83rd Street, as the museum continues to work to move into its new home at the corner of West 96th Street and Central Park West, which is slated to open in 2028.
The Knicks parade on Wednesday is free to attend.
