By West Side Rag

Today is a milestone date for West Side Rag.

It is our 15th birthday and we wanted to express our heartfelt thanks to all the readers, tipsters, commenters, and financial supporters who have made the Rag an essential community platform.

Thanks to that engagement, WSR now has more than 25,000 subscribers to our daily newsletter. There’s no charge for a subscription, and all of our Upper West Side stories are free to read; last year, the site generated nearly 12 million page views.

  • Support West Side Rag — HERE.

Though our content is free to readers, it is not free to produce; all of our contributors are paid for their work. But we face a challenge that confronts many media outlets today: Simply put, our revenues do not cover our expenses. Last month, we told readers the Rag is in a period of transition as we seek to gain nonprofit status that we hope will help us stabilize, flourish, and grow for another 15 years.

In the meantime, your support in these coming months, while we continue to work toward nonprofit status, is crucial.

So, on our 15th birthday, we’d like to ask you to consider either lending or renewing your financial support with a one-time, monthly, or annual gift. The support helps us ensure that West Side Rag will be here for you and future generations.

Thank you for your consideration and readership.

Please limit comments to 150 words and keep them civil and relevant to the article at hand. Comments are closed after six days. Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate. A detailed statement on comments and WSR policy can be read here.
