Salomon, a Europe-based running and athletic wear store, opened on May 6th at 270 Columbus Avenue (between West 72nd and West 73rd streets). Salomon features its own brand of athletic footwear and apparel. It has a number of stores in European cities including Paris, London, Barcelona, and Rome. The Upper West Side store is the third in New York City for the brand: The other shops are in SoHo and Williamsburg. The new Columbus Avenue location is a “performance focused store,” the store manager told West Side Rag on a visit. The shop  carries a full range of running-focused apparel for women and men, including sneakers, hydration vests, socks, running belts, and totes. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Johnny Was, a women’s clothing store which closed in February, was previously in the space.

Toro 7 Sushi, a Japanese restaurant, opened on May 7th at 103 West 70th Street (just west of Columbus Avenue). It is under the same ownership as Raku, another Upper West Side  Japanese restaurant, located at 57 West 76th Street, the manager told West Side Rag. Toro 7 Sushi’s menu is similar to Raku’s, but not as extensive, he said. Toro serves sushi, teriyaki, ramen, and gyoza dishes. Delivery is available through third-party services such as Grub Hub, Seamless, and Uber Eats. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week from 12:30 to 9:30 p.m. Amber, also a Japanese restaurant, was previously in the space before merging with Flame at 100 West 82nd Street, in July 2025.

Crepes & Breakfast, a breakfast and brunch spot, opened on March 15th at 366 West 110th Street (between Columbus and Manhattan avenues), inside of Miss Mamie’s Spoonbread Too, a soul food restaurant. The restaurant is run by the team from Crepes on Columbus, which closed its location at 990 Columbus Avenue (between West 108th and West 109th streets), in February. Hours are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, a restaurant employee told West Side Rag on a phone call. In addition to breakfast items, the restaurant also serves sandwiches, salads, and soups.

Ghemo, a Georgian wine restaurant and bakery, is opening on May 20th at 201 West 106th Street (between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue), owner Guram Kharshiladze told West Side Rag on a visit to the restaurant. According to WhatNow, menu highlights will include khachapuri (a cheese filled bread), and khinkali (a Georgian soup dumpling). There will also be a focus on wine “all the way to the earliest documented wine, which dates back to 8,000 B.C. in the South Caucasus, what is modern-day Georgia,” the article said. The cafe and bakery will be open starting at 7 a.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. on weekends, and the restaurant will be open from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Kharshiladze said. The space was previously a beauty salon. (Thanks to Tasha for the tip.)

Ray’s Pizza at 462 Columbus Avenue (at West 82nd Street), will reopen on May 18th, according to an employee from the Midtown West location. Ray’s on Columbus has been temporarily closed for the past few weeks due to a gas leak. (Thanks to Jane for the tip.)

ICYMI: Radio Bakery,a  Brooklyn based bakery, is coming to 463 Columbus Avenue (between West 82nd and West 83rd streets), in 2027. Park West Pharmacy, which moved next door to 461 Columbus Avenue in 2021, was previously in the space  which has since been vacant. Read West Side Rag’s coverage of this news here.

Mamie’s Spoonbread Two is between Columbus and Manhattan Ave., not between West End and Riverside.

Georgian food!!!

Also. I noticed the former Food Emporium space on 90th and Broadway, it now has a sign saying retail or medical space, and now I see a bunch of sinks with cabinets underneath. So does this mean a medical practice is definitely opening there? Or the owners are hoping one will?

A large ENT\Allergy practice is moving in. I do not know if they are taking up all the space.

How many athletic wear and athleisure clothing stores does one neighborhood need? Are they a mafia money laundering operation or something?

Little Italy is always a staple. Two Boots on 71st and Columbus. Emmy’s Pizza further down on Amsterdam and 60. Parla has decent but expensive. You need to get out more

More to the point – there aren’t any real good slice shops on the upper west side anymore. S&C has become inconsistent (and it’s a schlep for me). Little Italy, Francesco, Traviata are all middling at best. Same for Two Boots, but at least their toppings can be good. Made in NY and Marinara are OK. Hoping Lucia opening on Columbus/67 will be a bright spot.
