A popular Brooklyn bakery is expected to open next year on the Upper West Side.
Radio Bakery, which has two locations in Greenpoint and Prospect Heights, will open in 2027 at 463 Columbus Avenue, between West 82nd and 83rd streets, a spokesperson for the bakery confirmed to West Side Rag.
“Next year, Radio Bakery officially enters Manhattan with its highly anticipated new shop on the Upper West Side,” the Radio Bakery spokesperson wrote to the Rag in an email. “The beloved Brooklyn bakery, led by co-owner and chef Kelly Mencin alongside the team behind Rolo’s and Hellbender, will bring its signature seasonal pastries, sandwiches and breads to a new audience.”
The spokesperson did not specify when in 2027 the bakery would open in the neighborhood.
Radio Bakery has more than 115,000 followers on Instagram and has received a bevy of accolades since opening its original Greenpoint location in 2023, including being named one of the 22 best bakeries in the United States by the New York Times in 2024.
It is best known for its croissants and lunch sandwiches, and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or until it sells out, which is a common occurrence.

In terms of the new Upper West Side location, the bakery will be moving into the former home of Park West Pharmacy, which moved one storefront to the south shortly after the COVID pandemic. There are also four floors of residential apartments above the future home of Radio Bakery.
The area near the new Radio Bakery location is also not devoid of other baked goods options, as Modern Bread & Bagel, Billy’s Bakery, and the new Orwashers Bakery location are all between West 80th and 84th streets along Columbus Avenue.

I’m guessing it will be even MORE obscenely expensive than Modern or Orwashers.
I stick to bagels for cheap at Zingone Brothers right on that block.
Radio Bakery is amazing and totally worth the price, in my opinion. And at Modern you’re paying extra for things being gluten-free.
Come to Boca the bagels are cheaper here.
Radio Bakery has the best focaccia sandwiches. Their pastries are delicious and full of imagination – in a very good way! It’ll be a great addition to the neighborhood, and much closer for some of us than their other locations.
I stop there on bike rides into Brooklyn. The sandwiches really are great! I usually bring three back and they last days.
The Instagram post telling the people in the block-long line up a residential street to keep the noise level down made me so happy this new addition to the neighborhood is nowhere near me. Happy the stores are occupied but I have an aversion to lines and tik-toking transplants taking up the sidewalk. Rant over.
Just what the UWS needed, another bakery line. You can get a fabulous croissant at Delices Macaron, Amsterdam between 75th and 76th
If properly made, all croissants are exactly alike. It’s one of the least-creative pastries, just flour and butter in many layers. But where can you get a proper napoleon?
I love them! No place I know of nearby. Hot and Crusty had them- places I lived are gone.
What does the UWS need then, chief?
anybody stating the neighborhood doesn’t need another bakery simply has never had radio bakery. this is pastry on another level by a chef who really knows what’s up and constantly renews the offerings to match seasonal ingredients. get prepared to worship the hype is worth every penny. best bakery in the country imo
Check out Epices Bakery on 70th Street
YOU BETCHA!
Pastries are not seasonal. Real pastries are eternal.
What on earth can be seasonal about pastries???
Right? Are all her ingredients “locally sourced” and does she bake “sustainably”? I’m sure the pastries are good, but enough with the overused and much abused epicurean buzzwords!
Nothing! Entenmann’s can easily last all four seasons, right?
Welcome to the neighborhood. I hope they make their pastries on-site. I am definitely open to new deliciousness.
I think it is very important to consider the astronomical fees associated with rent, opening costs, including interior redesigning, equipment and signage. Each time a new business opens up, of course it is going to be significantly more expensive than an older shop, especially those in lower rent areas of the city. And you can’t even compare rents to those who bought their building somewhere back 100 years ago. Think about how much you would have to rent out a newly purchased apartment for on the UWS after buying, decorating, paying taxes & homeowners, plus utilities as compare to someone who bought in the mid 1980’s.
Cannot wait for this opening! The owner, Kelly, is a lovely person and the quality of their her is unparalleled. Before you make fun of seasonality in pastries, take a look at their menu or better yet their Instagram to see what they mean when they say that. There will be super long lines and influencers/TikTokkers galore but honestly, let’s just celebrate a world class small business moving to our neighborhood.
A neighborhood can never have too many bakeries! Besides being delicious, they bring a lot of life to a street. There was a time when bakeries were everywhere in NYC, then they all disappeared. I welcome their return.
