Keeping the Spain love alive after the country’s dramatic World Cup victory, the Hispanic Society opened a new show yesterday, “Collection Without Borders,’” featuring work that celebrates the culture of Spain, Portugal, Latin America, Goa, and the Philippines. The Hispanic Society’s also hosting a “Summer Salsa Social” on Sunday, with introductory dance lessons at 3 p.m. and live music from 3:30 to 5.

I’m dying to see this movie about beloved, best-selling poet Mary Oliver – “a poet for everyone, even those who don’t read poetry.” UWS indie cinema New Plaza is screening the 90-minute documentary on Saturday at its summer home at MAD. (I’ll be at the 2026 U.S. Track & Field Outdoor & Para National Championships at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island, or I’d be there!)
Chinese Arts Week at Lincoln Center: Lincoln Center on Broadway between West 62nd and 66th streets; dates and times below and at this link; free
Lincoln Center has been shining a spotlight on Chinese culture since Monday, in a weeklong showcase of programs that extends through this weekend. Check out Kung Fu Hip Hop on the Lincoln Center Plaza Friday at 6 p.m., Shen Wei Dance Arts at 7 p.m., or a Silent Disco at 8 p.m. Mongolian folk rockers Hanggai are on deck Saturday, as is more dancing and music.

Part of Riverside Parks Conservancy’s “Hudson Summer on the Hudson” series of free summer events, this is being promoted as “a vibrant, inclusive celebration of everything New York”. Sounds good to me! Live vinyl DJs will spin “vintage tunes,” giving participants an opportunity to party like it’s the ’70s to the ’90s – to a soundtrack of disco, funk, soul, house, boogie, Latin music, and more.

We mentioned this free outdoor festival — a community tradition dating back over 30 years — a couple of weeks ago. But if you missed it, it’s not too late! The festival continues through August 23rd, and this Sunday at 2 p.m. it features gospel and Motown-inspired singer Grace Young of The Grace Young Experience.

Go New York, Go New York, Go! The NBA’s championship trophy will be on display on the UWS starting Monday, joining the “For the Win: Objects of Sports Excellence” exhibition at the AMNH. Featuring the names of every winning team since 1947, the 30-pound trophy’s been newly engraved with the 2025-26 season champs — our very own New York Knicks.
