UPDATE: Tuesday, April 28 at 5 p.m.: The West Side YMCA closure connected to “an emergency” related to a steam leak has been extended a day, and the entire building is now shuttered through at least Wednesday, April 29.

The West Side YMCA on the Upper West Side is fully closed on Monday and Tuesday due to “an emergency,” according to a message on its website.
The Y, on West 63rd Street, between Broadway and Central Park West, informed readers that “Members have citywide access [to other YMCA facilities] at this time. The Residence Program is open & Program Participants will receive a make-up class or credit.”
While the message on the website doesn’t specify the nature of the emergency, an email from YMCA leadership, shared with West Side Rag, indicates it is related to an “emergency steam leak.”
The West Side YMCA did not immediately respond to the Rag’s request for more information.

They have everything for young men to enjoy,
You can hang out with all the boys…
But not again until Wednesday.
men?
The M in YMCA does stand for “men”
Do I need to spell it out? – those are some of the lyrics from “YMCA” – a certain president’s favorite song.
I think it’s funny, but lots of very intelligent people might not recognize the lyrics! It is neither nice nor appropriate to talk down to them.
Oh, lighten up. Firstly, he wasn’t taking down to anyone. Secondly, it’s one of the most recognizable songs in history known to probably all but 1%-2% of the population over the age of 18. Anyone who didn’t get it is arguably obtuse or just looking to pick an unnecessary fight.
Actually, it’s 2.8% of the population over the age of 18. I know because I read it in a comment posted by a user on the internet…
Gym members got an email saying that an emergency repair was taking place.
All the early childhood families are eagerly awaiting the Y to reopen! Fingers crossed for Wednesday!
It might not be Equinox, but it’s still a very good gym and other facilities for the kind of money you spend on a membership. You can still get a great workout, enjoy a steam room or sauna, grab a shower. After that, you’re free to try and hit on those Equinox chicks if they’re hanging around the local bars and restaurants.
