A man was hit and killed by a train Monday morning on the Upper West Side, a police spokesperson confirmed to West Side Rag.
The fatal incident took place around 7:05 a.m., when a train struck a 30-year-old man along the B/C line near the West 96th Street and Central Park West station, police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, NYPD added.
The train operator saw the man on the tracks near the Upper West Side station, but was not able to stop the train in time, police said.
It is unclear why the man was on the tracks, but there is no criminality expected, NYPD added.
We will update this story, if we learn more.

There was a track fire at 125th St which messed up the 1 ,2, 3 this morning as well.
That was my friend that died. Have some compassion, it wasn’t done on purpose.
thank you for the info!!!
Your compassion is overwhelming.
Not if you commute,
OPOS, what do you mean?
There are two different 125th Street stations for the 1 and 2/3 – which line was affected?
Perhaps you could retract this or post that info elsewhere so as not to sound like an “as well” addition to the report of someone who was sadly killed by an oncoming train.
(Apologies if this sounds too harsh.)
Rest in peace.
Damn. This is heavy.
I hear that a lot “ couldn’t stop in time” so I started wondering IF there is a slow down rule when approaching station and if not shouldnt there be?
Anybody who’s ever been on a subway is aware that trains slow down as they approach the station. But given their momentum, I’d think it would be almost impossible to stop on a dime when some poor soul is on the tracks. I feel for the operator, who has to live with this, as well as the victim.
This is not the operator’s fault and they should not be in the position of having to avoid hitting people who jump onto the tracks.
My friend didn’t jump on the track. Be careful what you say. You are speaking of somebody’s loved one. He was loved. He is loved and has and Army of people behind him. Rest in peace my angel.
My friend did not jump on the tracks. Not every story regarding person on the tracks is about suicide. Yes your commute was a little hectic SORRY but at least you made it home to make this comment. Have some compassion to those affected by the loss, bc we still are in shock. And no way is the operator to blame, they tried their best.
Who said he jumped … please tread very lightly. That was my nephew and he didn’t jump!!!!! We’re you there did you make an official statement….? Did you sign it ? Did you see him jump ??? Please in lighting me
Hi I’m so sorry for this he’s my sister’s husband son and no he wouldn’t jump onto no train tracks he was a very intelligent young man this is so devastating 😢 💔 and everyone is affected by this where are the camera’s we need to see a video showing what happened to him and who was he with
My heart breaks for the person who died, his family and friends and the train operator and hope they can all find peace.
7:05 on a Monday morning would be a busy enough time. How could nobody see what happened?
I believe this might be a fellow classmate of mine and my heart is so heavy. A, you had the biggest heart and one of the most beautiful voices. You don’t deserve this, and my condolences to your family. 😞 Heaven really gained an angel with you.
