A play, politics, and a pop-up concert are some of your excellent local options over the next few days.

Let’s Weekend!

 March 21st to 25th, 2025

The Picture of Dorian Gray, at the Music Box Theater, 239 West 45th Street, showtimes and tickets here

Sarah Snook, the Australian actress best known for her role as Shiv Roy on “Succession,” plays dozens of characters from Oscar Wilde’s 1890 masterpiece in this Olivier-winning production. Tickets aren’t cheap, but you can enter the lottery for two $49 tickets here. The New York Times calls the show “a darkly funny triumph,” and The Washington Post says it’s “revolutionary, remarkable and dazzling.” Snook and the show have gotten loads of media attention in the lead-up to opening night, March 27, from The New Yorker, Vogue, and even Runner’s World. I’m excited to see it in previews tomorrow!

Manhattan State of the Borough Address 2025, Sunday, March 23, 2:15 to 5 p.m. at LaGuardia High School, 100 Amsterdam Avenue, RSVP here, free

Borough President Mark Levine will share highlights from the last year and lay out future initiatives for our borough this Sunday right here on the UWS. Seating is first-come, first-served, and doors will open at 1:30. Contact events@manhattanbp.nyc.gov with questions or with any requests for special accommodations. Levine is expected to highlight the setting for this year’s address by including a focused discussion of the arts.

Met Orchestra Chamber Ensemble, Sunday, March 23 at 5 p.m., St. Paul & St. Andrew United Methodist Church at West 86th Street and West End Avenue, free

Featuring a select group of musicians from the Met Opera Orchestra, this free concert will include Beethoven’s Septet in E-flat Major, Op.20, and Wolf’s Italienische Serenade. It’s part of Carnegie Hall’s Citywide program, which partners with local community organizations to present free concerts with programs ranging from chamber music classics to standout works by contemporary composers.

Rebekah Heller – Music for Bassoon: Free Pop-Up Concert, Tuesday, March 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Miller Theater, 2960 Broadway, free.

Even after the weekend’s over, if you’re craving world-class music, you can hear some for free at neighborhood gem The Miller Theater at Columbia University. Bassoonist Rebekah Heller will perform new music by composers from the African diaspora, including the world premiere of Righteous Rage by Brittany J. Green. The Miller’s Pop-Up Concerts are informal, salon-style affairs, where audience members are invited to sit onstage and enjoy a free glass of beer or wine. Afterwards, you can mingle with the musicians and fellow concertgoers. No registration necessary. Onstage seating is first-come, first-served. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
