Every Wednesday, West Side Rag publishes a new “Openings & Closings” column, which monitors the businesses coming and going from the neighborhood. Each article usually has four or five entries – and that really adds up. In July, we published a list of more than 100 businesses that had been featured over the first half of the year.
Now that we’re at the end of the year – time flies! – below is an alphabetical list (with links) of every opening we’ve covered over the past six months. This list also includes businesses that are planning to open soon as well as some that have popped-up, moved, expanded, or renovated.

Content like this is reason the Rag is the undisputed leader in local UWS news. None of your competitors even come close.
It’s so great to see all these small shops and cafes opening. But I wish they had better advice about their names.
Some of them are confusing to pronounce (is Sote pronounced So-tuh or Soat? And neither sounds appealing for a coffee shop). The owner says “D’Lioz” is a combination of his last name and that of his best friend, but how is it pronounced? And it makes for an odd URL.
And some just don’t sound good when said out loud: Kancil?
You omitted Utsuwa Botanical Design, the amazing Japanese plant store at 86th & Columbus
Hashi Market, what appears to be a very upscale Japanese supermarket, is to fill the former Garden of Eden space at West 107th Street.
