The Cashmere Sale, the annual pop-up store, is returning to the Upper West Side on October 9 at 2139 Broadway (corner of West 75th Street), a representative confirmed. The sale includes cashmere sweaters, jackets, vests, and accessories like hats, gloves, and scarves. The sale is planning to run through December 18. The space used to be a Lululemon, which closed in 2022. Hours posted on the website are Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Cashmere Sale has several pop-ups along the east and west coasts. Other locations in NYC include: on the Upper East Side at 1172 Third Avenue (opening next week), and one in Chelsea at 7 West 19th Street. (Thanks to Sanford for the tip.)

Easyplant, which sells self-watering plants, is planning to open on Columbus between West 75th and 76th streets in early 2025, a representative wrote to WSR. Its plants come in pots that have a built-in reservoir, which only needs to be filled with water about once per month. Water from the reservoir is carried to the bottom layer of soil, regulating how much water the plant receives. As a result, its plants live on average “6x longer than regular plants,” according to the company’s website. Easyplant opened its first store this past summer in Nolita. The UWS space has been vacant for the past few years, but it was most recently a branch of Bank of America.

SUGARED + BRONZED, a hair removal and airbrush tanning salon, has signage up at 495 Columbus Avenue (at West 84th Street.) They plan to open in March 2025, a representative told WSR in an email. SUGARED + BRONZED was founded in Santa Monica, California, in 2010 and now has locations in California, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas. They have nine salons in NYC (Upper East Side, Murray Hill, Chelsea, Union Square, Midtown East, Boerum HIll, and Williamsburg). SUGARED + BRONZED specializes in sugaring hair removal and custom airbrush tanning. “Our sugaring method uses a natural paste made of sugar, lemon, and water which gently removes hair without the harshness of traditional waxing,” the representative wrote to the Rag. “Our custom airbrush spray tans give you a flawless sun-kissed glow without any harmful UV exposure.” SUGARED + BRONZED offers à la carte services and memberships where customers can save up to 42% off the regular prices. The last tenant in the space was a Jeffrey Stein Salon, a hair salon that closed in March 2018, merging with its location at 2345 Broadway.

Midtown Physical Therapy, has closed its Upper West Side location at 113 West 78th Street (between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenue), and relocated to the Upper East Side, as of October 4. An email sent to clients said the reason for the move was to “upgrade facilities and landlord,” and to add the ability to perform Laser Therapy treatments. Midtown PT also has a location in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.

Inspire Orthodontics opened last week at 424 West End Avenue (between West 80th and 81st streets). The new practice is led by Dr. Reem Abdulrahman, who specializes in developing the airway in conjunction with aligning the teeth. This approach is often necessary because human jaws have been found to be shrinking compared to pre-agricultural humans, primarily due to changes in diet. “When the jaws are smaller, your airway is smaller because the maxilla, which is the top jaw, makes up the nasal cavity dimension and the space for the tongue. The lower jaw positioning also impacts the airway and your breathing, so that plays into every aspect of your health,” she explained on a call with West Side Rag. “The whole goal is catching kids early enough that have signs of a compromised airway to help them develop and grow in the proper direction.”

Dr. Abdulrahman lives in the neighborhood and chose to open on the Upper West Side because of the many schools and families in the area, but she also treats adults. “If [adult patients] are already in a space where they’re snoring, mouth breathing, have obstructive sleep apnea, [or other symptoms], then it’s a matter of making sure that they’re diagnosed properly, and then treating the skeleton,” she said. “The main goal is [always] with the airway in mind [for] all ages.” Services include clear aligners and braces, as well as palate expanding and tongue-tie release, as well as other procedures. The space was formerly occupied by Poppyseed Pre-Nursery.
