By Gary Martin

This November, while voting for the separation of Church and State, let’s also vote for the separation of State and Uterus.

Gary B. Martin is an illustrator and animator who has lived on the Upper West Side for more than three decades. His Sunday illustrations for West Side Rag chronicle life in the neighborhood, New York City, and the Universe.

Watch for Gary’s illustrations on Sundays in the Rag and see them all here. For a broader range of Gary’s work, including animations and other motion graphics, please visit www.martoons.com

Please limit comments to 150 words and keep them civil and relevant to the article at hand. Comments are closed after six days. Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate. Very clever, Gary! Now we need all good people to come to the aid of their democracy.

It is unfathomable to me how any woman, or the loved one of any woman, or anyone who cares about personal choice of ANY kind, is still undecided. Vote! Thank you Gary for putting it so succinctly.

It is unfortunate that it constantly needs to be said and reiterated, but “her body, her choice.” Thank you for taking your readers to this place.

That is not what this election is about, folks. New York state will always allow abortions. Abortion is a state level issue once again. This election is about bigger issues at the federal level.
