A 72-year-old man died in a fire that broke out in his Upper West Side apartment on Saturday night, ABC7 first reported.
Three firefighters suffered minor injuries in the blaze.
A spokesperson confirmed to West Side Rag that the FDNY responded to a call at around 9:16 p.m., regarding “smoke/fire on the fourth floor of a five-story multiple-dwelling building at 208 West 88th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.” They found the victim “in the apartment, unconscious and unreponsive,” ABC7 reported. He was transported to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The firefighters were treated and released.
The cause and origin of the blaze are under investigation.
