“March’s Lion and Lamb”
By Mildred Alpern
The saying that March comes in like a lion
And then goes out like a lamb
Suggests an animal sequence
Of an unlikely caravan
It make the month a strange scene
Bifurcated in two
With a fierce start
And a gentle heart
When the ending of March comes due
Oh winds of March in swirling blast
Resounding through the trees
Carrying chords high pitched and loud
Cacophonous harmonies
But chilling breezes through the month
Daunt not the daffodil
Just dreaming of that gentle lamb
While blooming on the hill
The calendar months project arose from a simple question: what makes each month distinctive? The poems were created to merge the wonder of the people and sites of the neighborhood with the calendar months. Check out other months here.
