Vaccines for Kids Are In — With Lollipops!

Danny’s Pharmacy saves us again! Not another traumatic story – this time, just fast and easy! Two weeks ago, during a playdate with our friends Benjamin and Nina, our parents ambushed us and told us we were going to get a flu shot. I was a bit anxious about it… until my mom reminded me: it’s at Danny’s! A shot comes with a lollipop, which makes me feel better about it.

When we arrived, while Danny was attending to his customers, we hung out exploring the store, trying to convince our parents to buy us stuff (it didn’t work – but our friend Tammy bought us a pack of bubble gum!) until we were called back. Danny told us silly things while he did the shots, and I barely felt mine at all! We left feeling happy and munching our BlowPops. (Benjamin had already gotten the shot, but he said he “deserved a lollipop for the emotional support he was providing to us.”)

Then last weekend, Danny called us and told us “We have kids’ COVID-19 vaccines here right now!” We practically dashed over. I felt calmer and more relaxed because covid boosters hurt less than flu shots. And I was right: he told me some more silly jokes, and I left with my watermelon lollipop and a smile on my face.

The government’s map still only shows the big chains, so we were worried Danny’s wouldn’t have the shots. I’m so glad he did, though I wouldn’t mind not seeing Danny again now for another year 🙂 #Dannyspharmacy II for the win!

Sienna submitted her vaccine article in the aftermath of the West Side Rag’s report on where to get the new COVID-19 vaccine in the neighborhood, and how none of the independent pharmacies had received the updated shot. While it appears that a handful of independent pharmacies have gotten the new COVID shot, such as Danny’s Pharmacy II, the majority that the West Side Rag called Thursday in the neighborhood still had not.

Had our Covid shots at Danny’s yesterday. Despite reports of availability, it was not possible to make Covid shot appointments at any of the 10023 chain pharmacies, even weeks out. Phones go unanswered as well.
❣️!To Danny’s! ❣️

Wish I had known about Danny’s before getting my Covid booster at the Walgreen at 125 & Broadway, half an hour from home, an appointment which I felt lucky to get (the closest store the CVS website could come up with was in a New Jersey mall). I was under the impression that independent drugstores, which I favor, weren’t getting supplies of the new vaccine. Good for Mr. Khaminov!

This is a very “cute” story but the Rag should do a better job of balancing the pharma and government-renewed push for kids being vaccinated against the new research and evidence that is finally emerging. This topic is too important for a puff piece like this that in essence is advocating this vaccine for kids.. There is not a single other western country other than Canada that recommends this shot for healthy children. Children do not get seriously ill from COVID and according to the CDC, the COVID vaccine does not prevent infection or transmission so you’re not protecting naybody either. A landmark paper shows the Vaccine has a 1/800 severe adverse event rate. In comparison, the Rotavirus vaccine was pulled from the market with a 1/10,000 and Swine flu pulled with 1/100,000. Parents talk to your doctors and do the research. Link to study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36055877/

This helpful short article on the availability of the vaccine was (appropriately) neither advising for or against the decision to get vaccinated. Just like the research you’ve done for you and your family, Bill, many of us have done independent research for ourselves and our family, and come to different conclusions, balancing risks of the vaccine vs the still not well known long-term consequences of the virus, the likelihood of covid infections (vs. swine flu!), vulnerabilities among our family and friends, and other factors. THANK YOU, WSR and Sienna, for letting those of us who have done the research and have been waiting to vaccinate ourselves and our kids know where we can go!
