For those who might have missed it were it not for last weekend’s weather, the West 104th Street Block Association has rescheduled its 32nd Annual Yard Sale for this coming Saturday, October 8, from 10am to 5pm. It will take place on West 104th Street between West End Avenue and Riverside Drive, admission is free, and the weather is predicted to be perfect!

Here’s how the Block Association describes some of the things you can do at the Annual Yard Sale, in their newsletter, which is worth checking out:

* Shop in more than 60 stalls bursting with second-hand treasures. Bid on gift certificates, antiques, vintage collectibles, posters, photographs, paintings, theater tickets, household items in their original boxes, and services at the Silent Auction.

* Browse a large selection of novels, plays, poetry, history, biography, children’s books, cookbooks, atlases, dictionaries, and CDs at the Book Sale. Select your family dessert at the Bake Sale.

* Hunt down a two-dollar labor saver or conversation piece at ‘What-A-Bargain.’ Take a chance in a raffle. The 2021 raffle winner won $3,782, a bit under our pre-pandemic record in 2019 when the winner took home $4,985. We are hoping for a 2022 comeback so get your raffle tickets today!

* Tap your foot to live music performed by seasoned New York musicians.

The West 104th Street Block Association was founded in 1970 “in reaction to a rising tide of street crime on the block and in the belief that unified neighbors contribute importantly to the quality of life on the block,” according to their newsletter. “The block association collected funds from block residents to hire a security guard to patrol the block in the evenings,” a practice that continues today. It also implemented block-beautification and street-safety measures, and social events like the Annual Yard Sale.

(Thanks to Sue Sussman for the tip.)
