Very sorry to hear that.

A lot of people currently think it is no longer dangerous, just a cold.

Well, 2 of my friends had very light symptoms back in April, wasn’t a big deal. However in May one of my friends had a very bad case of Covid and is still dealing with complications.

The worst news though I got from my friend from out of state, who just visited me. She contracted Covid on a plane back home and is now in ER with kidney complications.

All boosted and vaccinated, ages between 40 and 50.

Please stay safe everyone and don’t neglect the masks in crowded places or indoors. That will help not only you but other people.

I’m almost scared to ask this, was your friend wearing a mask on the plane?

No, she wasn’t. She thought that vaccination and boosting will be enough. That was on the way back from NY. Her child got Covid too, also vaccinated and boosted, but was sick only for 3 days. Both are still showing that they have the virus in their system (it has been the 10th day).

On the way here, she wore the mask to protect me as she was staying with me. She thought she was overcautious. She did it out of courtesy for me.

Funny how the vaccine doesn’t prevent catching or transmitting, but they can cause side effects…ever think of that?

Sorry to hear of your friends. I was on a plane last month from Queretaro, Mexico to La Guardia, with a connection in Houston. In Mexico, virtually 100% of people were masked, and most were masked on the plane. In Houston, maybe 10% were masked (and LGA wasn’t much better), and on the Houston-New York flight, maybe 25% masked. I kept my N95 mask on the whole time and somehow managed to make it back unscathed. Americans can be unbelievably stupid.

I went to Mexico in March 2021 and no one there was wearing a mask, yet everyone here was. Americans are not stupid, we’ve just all had it multiple times (like the experts predicted) and are ready to move on.

Guess what, you can get it again and again. You run a great risk of long term complications. All you need to do is wear a mask.

Does anyone still pay attention to “positivity rates”? This is so 2020. Let’s move on…

Of course we pay attention! We all want to move on but just ignoring reality and refraining from risk mitigation will result in many more of us getting sick and the emergence of new variants , some of which may be quite problematic. It’s not just a cold for so many!

Can someone explain to me again why they dropped the mask mandate? That was THE ONLY THING KEEPING INFECTION RATES DOWN.

Mask mandates are shunned by people without risk factors who only care about themselves.

I don’t understand that either! And it’s actually confusing on public transportation. Did they drop the mandate?? I don’t know if the signs are still up, but I have heard train announcements to wear the,, but most people don’t. If 9 people a day are dying of covid in NYC, that’s 9 too many 🙁

The signs are still up, at least on the M7, M10 and M11, which are the buses I mostly ride. On yesterday’s trip, I saw only two unmasked people, but quite a few wearing theirs chin-strap style. The drivers seem have gone silent on the issue, probably to protect themselves from irate riders.

Completely agree.

There was a big deal re the kids wearing the masks. All parents I know agree that it is not a big deal at all for the kids , they adjust to the masks easier than adults and live their life completely normally. I know that first hand.

A teacher friend who has managed to not get Covid (yet) jokes that people like her should be eligible for the “golden dodgeball” award one day! Seriously, lots of us (with or around babies, moms-to-be, older, vulnerable and immune-compromised friends and neighbors…that’s lots of people) really don’t want to get or spread Covid, still. Yes, some are OK, but it’s incredibly disruptive – and can be very harmful. These numbers are useful for how we live every day. Sobering that the city was relatively so much safer in mid March. That’s life these days. Stay safe, all!

Yesterday I was on the 34th Street crosstown bus. Fewer than half the people wore masks.I spotted an MTA officer on the bus–not wearing a mask–and was going to ask him for help. He then removed 3 blue masks from a large plastic bottle near the front of the bus–but instead of putting one on, he stuffed all three in his bag!!! How can I, a severely immune compromised person , deal with this??? The #1 subway I took was even worse. No one cares and there is NO enforcement. Not even by MTA.
WHY???? I am dependent upon public transportation. I shouldn’t have to worry about putting my life at risk by doing so. I don’t understand this world.

It is a political issue. Politicians don’t want to lose votes of people who are against it and call it an “obedience mask”
