The family of Michelle Go, the Upper West Side woman who died after being pushed in front of a subway train on Saturday, released a statement on Twitter on Monday asking that people remember Michelle for the way she lived, not the way she died, and that the press respect their privacy as they deal with their shock and loss.
The full statement reads:
We are in a state of shock and grieving the loss of our daughter, sister, and friend. We hope Michelle will be remembered for how she lived, and not just how she died. She was a beautiful, brilliant, kind, and intelligent woman who loved her family and friends, loved to travel the world and to help others. Her life was taken too soon in a senseless act of violence, and we pray that she gets the justice she deserves. Thank you for your condolences. We ask the media to please respect our privacy during this very difficult time.
There will be a vigil for Michelle at the Red Steps near the Times Square station on Tuesday at 6PM. (See details below.) “The Red Steps are located on the south side of the TKTS booth on 47th between 7th & Broadway in Father Duffy Square,” according to Trip Advisor.
Here is a link to live stream the vigil.
****Sorry, readers! Our source ended. We know NBC is living streaming. It is well worth watching. Coverage tomorrow.
Where in Times Square are the Red Steps?
Some people refer to the TKTS staircase as the Red Steps or the Red Stairs. That makes more sense for a vigil than anything inside the Times Square subway complex.
Correct. WSR – thank you for sharing this information but please correct as you state Times Square Station but the Red Steps (as noted in the tweet you copied) are not particularly close to the subway station.
Thank you. Fixed and directions to Red Steps added.
Michelle go is the air I breathe, the water I drink and the ground I stand on.
The scar in my heart will be with me until my last day.
May you rest in peace a pure consecrate soul.
