A 30-year-old man was shot Tuesday morning around 1:14 a.m. at the corner of 102nd Street and Broadway, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed to WSR. The victim sustained wounds to his groin, left arm and buttocks and was transported to Mount Sinai Morningside [St. Lukes] Hospital in stable condition, NYPD said.

A male suspect wearing dark clothing fled the scene in a white sedan with unknown plates, NYPD said. Officials did not have any information yet as to the circumstances leading up to the shooting nor the caliber of weapon used; the investigation is ongoing, NYPD said.

I used to go for walks at night on Bway and would get to 96th street and alternate going north or south. Now I usually go south. It’s kind of sketchy from 97th up to around 106th.

And DeBlasio says we’re all safer.

I don’t believe DeBlasio one bit. I’ve lived here for 45 years and don’t remember ever seeing this many violent crimes before. And there are no police officers anywhere! I sure hope Eric Adams steps up to the plate, because the city is rapidly declining. People who’ve lived here for many decades are leaving because it is not safe anymore.

I’ve lived on the UWS for as long as you have. I used to cross my fingers walking to my car in the morning, hoping it was intact. I was mugged rather brutally three times, all three times in daylight hours. To me, the UWS is practically idyllic compared with the crimes committed in the seventies and eighties. I do admit, however, that a shooting on my corner gives me pause.

Highest ever NYC murder rate year, as of the end of 2021 CE: 2001.

And this year’s rate is still much better than say 2006.

That includes 9/11 deaths. 2001 was far from the worst year.

NYPD still hasn’t provided any updates on the other recent shootings in the neighborhood. When are we going to start holding them accountable?

You need to hold the politicians accountable first. They’re the ones that don’t let the police do their job properly. Amazing how many people on the uws side refuse to point the accountability finger in the right direction

I didn’t realize it was the politicians who force every cop to play on their phones when they’re supposed to be on duty. People like the cops so when crime goes up they want to blame someone else, but it’s the cops job to prevent and solve crimes. When the politicians actually try to control the cops they turn their backs on them and leak private arrest records about their families (see what happened to de Blasio’s daughter). The cops could start earning some credibility for themselves by cleaning up the illegally parked cars and defaced license plates in front of their station houses.

Actually you are not entirely correct. The rank and file police officers do not “prevent” crime. They are called after a crime has been committed.

The NYPD’s anti-crime task was a unit designed to prevent crime but the mayor and police commissioner disbanded the unit.

Actually uniformed officers do prevent crime.Proof of this is that very few crimes are committed in the presence of a uniformed officer. Anti Crime Officers(when there was such a thing in NYC) work stealthily so as to apprehend a miscreant in the commission of a crime.

Those phones you think the cops are playing games on are actually part of their equipment. They are for the real life game of cops and robbers. They serve as a record of their activity and are routinely and remotely inspected at random by their supervisor. The phone is a contact to the 911 system and the station house to receive assignments. The officer also uses it to gather information re recent crimes, identification, vehicle information, record reports etc. The phone also serves as a GPS so that a supervisor and the 911 system knows the officer’s location at all times.

I wonder if it was gang related.

Quite possibly. 104/Columbus area has seen a lot of that type of activity. While this isn’t right there, it’s not too far.

By the way the monthly community meeting with the precinct command is by coincidence
tomorrow night at 7PM. It will be at the library at 150 West 100th street, just off Amsterdam

It lasts an hour or so and is open to the public, it’s a good chance as any ??? and/or concerns anyone might have
The precinct command has been very responsive to police and even non police related issues. If its non-police related, they will try and help as much as they can

Don’t forget Dinkins. He was in office for four years and those four years are numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 for the most murders ever in NYC since they kept records. Even de Blasio doesn’t come close to the clean sweep of the top four spots in 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993:

You are forgetting MayorJohn Vliet Lindsay. Mayor De Blasio is some kind of administrative genius in comparison. Give credit where it is due.
