Target Store Remains Closed Because of Storm Destruction

The new Target store at 795 Columbus Avenue near 98th Street has been closed for the past four days after the remnants of Hurricane Ida caused damage to the store. A brick walkway outside the store appeared to have caved in, as seen in the photo below by Karen.

A sign outside the store said it will be reopening TBD. The store’s website now says it is expected to be open on Tuesday.

Retail in Manhattan often makes extensive use of basements or cellar space for storage, inventory, etc.. Many of those areas were flooded due to Ida.

in these cases the public retail space is below ground level. It’s not just storage.
