Stand Up NY, the comedy club on 78th Street just off of Broadway, was vandalized on Friday. Someone spray-painted over the window, covering up photos of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris that had been set up inside the window. The vandal also painted partially over a menorah set up inside too. Co-owner Dani Zoldan explained what happened:
New Banksy artwork or vandalism? Well, this sucks. Someone felt the need to spray paint over pictures of Biden and Harris (and our Menorah?) that were displayed in our storefront.
We’re neither democrat or republican. We’re fiercely independent thinkers and we’re not shy of standing up for what we believe in.
Yes, we were excited that Biden and Harris won the election but we also think our democratic mayor, governor and local officials are doing a terrible job in New York City especially the inaction to help small businesses struggling during the pandemic.
We’ve filed a police report and we’re currently combing thru video footage to see if we can find the culprit. If we do, we’re gonna organize a show and roast this f***er. 🔥🔥🔥
Stand Up NY has been protesting city and state rules that have kept the club closed during the pandemic, arguing that it’s not fair that Saturday Night Live can perform shows with a live audience when small clubs have to shut down. To make do, the club has been holding shows outside, in religious spaces like churches, and even in a subway car.

This world is on its ear right now, but for this to happen on 78th street is infuriating and demoralizing!

If you are neither democrat or republican than why display Biden/Harris in your window? I am an Independent and was very upset that they stole the election, as are many other Independents/Republicans.

Get real. Stop watching Fox, or reading Facebook. The numerous election court cases had NO evidence ! Many were thrown out by Republican appointed judges, including Trump. Just false claims with ABSOLUTELY NO PROOF. What planet are you on? Pay attention Trump is dangerous to our democracy, and has made us the laughing stock of the world. Period!
Stolen election? 50 court case — 50 thrown out with a laugh. No evidence of voter fraud or anything stolen except the morals of The Donald: draft dodger, pussy grabber, tax evader. Do you need more evidence? How about a long, storied 50 year career of business cheating. 3,500 civil lawsuits pending and 14 sexual assault cases. FACT.
Ella, I would say you’re a Republican. And, FYI, the election wasn’t stolen. The only thing stolen was the money Trump collected from his supporters to file those lawsuits and to hold rallies. At that point he lost the election, but still took advantage of his peeps to prosper off of their gullibility.
I loved the pics of Biden/ Harris and wanted to get a pic of the window. Too bad I didn’t do it before the window was vandalized. Hope they get those f*****’s.
This sounds like petty vandalism. Sad, but petty crime seems be up. But for your Joe fix, Buceo 95, the restaurant on W. 95th St between Bway and Amsterdam, has many Joe Biden headshots (wearing a Santa cap), all over its storefront windows. It’s fabulous. And Ella, stop smoking that dope. You’re clearly in LaLa land.
Well given that Biden and Harris are the next president and VP, why wouldn’t they ?
Ella, if there were evidence of fraud — and I mean real evidence, not obviously-manufactured and easily-disproven claims that fall apart the second they enter a courtroom — then we’d all be upset. There’s not. It is 100% fantasy, the stuff of conspiracy theories. And if fantasies upset you… I mean I don’t know what to say. I don’t want to sound harsh, but the election fraud you’re claiming just isn’t based in reality.

1) It’s possible to be neither a Democrat or a Republican but still have a preference of a particular candidate, or possibly, an aversion to a particular candidate which causes you to vote for the opponent
2) Not all independents lean republican
3) It is possible to believe one party is better for national interests, while one is better for local, as these people seem to do
4) And lastly, for the one millionth time, no one stole any election. He won the popular vote by more than 7 million and there has been no substantiated evidence of voter fraud. You may not like or agree with the results, but nothing was “stolen”.
I would mostly agree with what Stand Up NY is saying about all of this including that SNL shouldn’t be able to have a live audience but that doesn’t mean SNY should too. The operative word in “small club” is small. I’ve been to SNY and it is. I would imagine there’s more space for the audience at SNL.
Imagine if they had Trump and Pence pictures in 2016…. Would be torched….

That window does not look terribly good before spray paint artwork … unless it is meant to be pure comedy. I am not a Trump fan by the way. Never was. Never will be.
Under vandalism laws spray painting another’s property with the purpose of defacing it is a crime. Once caught, the vandal should be fined and ordered to clean the window.

Who cares what their politics are? This was vandalism to private property, and that’s against the law, at least it was the last time I looked.
