Banh Vietnamese Shop House opens on October 30 in the former home of La Toulousaine at 942 Amsterdam Avenue and 106th Street with a special pop-up menu that includes all sorts of authentic Vietnamese delicacies. Thanks to Roadskater and Eating in Translation for the tips.
Healthy food chain Sweetgreen is opening a new outlet at 66th Street and Columbus Avenue, the company announced. Thanks to Jackie for the tip.
Jeffrey Stein Salon on Columbus Ave near 72nd St plans to close at the end of the month, an employee and customer tell us. Thanks to Kelly for the tip. Update: Jeffrey Stein will stay open after negotiating with the landlord!
Blue Bottle Coffee is close to opening a new outlet at 113th and Broadway. Roadskater recently spotted a sign in the window that said “training in progress.”
Manny’s Bistro has opened at 225 Columbus Avenue between 70th and 71st Street, the former home of Bistro Cassis. Manny had been the manager at Bistro Cassis. It’s got some of the same French food as Bistro Cassis, like steak au poivre and mussels. It opens at 5 p.m. for dinner, with indoor and outdoor dining available. Thanks to Joe for the tip.
The Victoria’s Secret at 2333 Broadway between 84th and 85th Streets is on the market, available to be rented “immediately” according to the flyer. It’s also listed as closed in the quarterly CBRE market report. As of last week, employees there had not heard of closing plans. The corporate office has not respoinded to our request for comment. Thanks to Upper West Sider for the tip.
Sweetgreen will be between 67 and 68 on Columbus, not 66th
Not according to Sweetgreen’s Instagram. It says 66th and Columbus.
I live in the building where Sweetgreen is building their new store, it’s part of the old Starbucks space which is closer to 67th Street.
Sweetgreen website says new “outpost” will be a bike! “Pickup your order from the sg branded bike at cross streets of Columbus Ave & W 66th St, New York, at the NE corner of Richard Tucker Park. To ensure safety, please wear a mask + practice social distancing.”
Victoria’s is closing? Where am I going to get my corsets and fishnets
According to an employee-in-training, Blue Bottle is opening on Saturday!
I am so pleased that Manny’s bistro has opened. I had a wonderful lunch there a few days ago with another one of my friends who loved Bistro Cassis. Thank you, Manny!!!!
Anyone know what happened to Saiguette? Closed at the start of lockdown and never reopened!
But there are 2 Vietnamese restaurants opening right on 106. Think they could be related to Saiguette. Maybe lower rent?
Saiguette is the best. Yelp claims it’s scheduled to reopen Nov. 2 but no idea if that’s true.
I love Vietnam we food. I’m glad to hear we are getting a new bang place near me. I’ll be there
There’s another Vietnamese going to open a block away from Banh. Big sign for a Miss Saigon renovating a storefront btw 105 and 106.
Really looking forward to Banh, but no tears for VS. I hope the whole floozy underwear thing has run its course. Women are not toys.
Floozy underwear? They have the most amazing collection of underwear and garments to wear under every dress style, not to mention the most fabulous selection of PJs. Luckily we can still stock up online!
According to the web site it sounds like the 66th and Columbus location of SweetGreen will be an “outpost” (bike pickup) not an actual location. https://order.sweetgreen.com/lincoln-sq-on-wheels/menu
I don’t care abou Victoria’s Secret as long as Town Shop survives!
The Upside on Amsterdam around 92nd is open, though it’s not apparent walking by what they serve.
I forgot to add, Gyu-Kaku is open too though only for indoor dining.
Thrilled about Sweetgreen,
Devastated about Jeffrey Stein Salon.
JS last day is Saturday. Most of the folks are moving to other salons in the hood.
For the last 5 yrs that VS store was poorly stocked and a total mess. I do like the chain for inexpensive items that fit my small size but I almost never found anything I liked in my size at that location. Had to go to 34th. Glad that our local Towne Shoppe will win out over corporate. On a side note, does anyone remember the “GIFT WITH PURCHASE” sign in the VS window right over that homeless guy? Hilarious!!
I’m actually wondering what will happen to the homeless guy once someone else takes over that spot. He’s been out there for at least 10 years (or more). 🙁
Jeffrey Stein is not closing after all
What a roller coaster ride!
We are so very happy to announce that Jeffrey Stein 72st will remain OPEN!
