Phish Lead Singer Trey Anastasio Spotted Jamming (Privately) in Central Park

Trey Anastasio, the lead singer of Phish and an Upper West Sider, was out and about in Central Park on Sunday, and Bobby Panza snapped some shots of him.

Bobby’s a big Phish fan and says Anastasio has been making music in his apartment during the pandemic and posting some of it on Instagram.

Anastasio was near the Naumberg Bandshell and Summerstage on Sunday.

He may have been there to warm up for a Summerstage concert on September 17 at 8 p.m. It’s called NYC Jubilee Jubilee: Songs and Stories Benefiting Free Programs in Parks and is a free digital benefit concert “featuring Sting, Norah Jones, Trey Anastasio, Rufus Wainwright, Rosanne Cash, Emily King, PJ Morton and more.” Check out summerstage.org for further details.

Bobby thinks he may have been doing a recording there.

“All I know at this time is he was recording something in the park with a production crew. It’s possible some people noticed and watched but they were in a secluded part of the park. This appeared to be a recording for future release and they tried to keep it DL. My guess is he was recording some new material privately for release during the pandemic, something he’s been doing a lot of from his UWS apartment.”

I’ve seen Trey walking in the park before. I feel bad for his neighbors though.

His gigs with The Dead in 2015 were pretty cool.

I love Trey but I sure wish he’d lose the damn sheeple mask! I guess most rich artists tend to be lefty socialists

That has nothing to do with the point of this article. Put your ego aside and be thankful he has an enormous passion to play music and an immeasurable desire to make people happy through that music. Trey thrives on togetherness and bringing folks together. This pandemic is making it hard for him to do what we all love so much. Music is the last true voice of the human spirit, it goes beyond age, beyond language and beyond color. Straight to the heart and mind of all people. Mask or no mask, this is as genuine as it gets.

He is wearing the mask to help save YOUR life more than his own. Masks help protect complete strangers from infection. Wearing a mask is not a political statement. With 170K dead, it’s common sense.

Bro, he’s wearing a mask to protect other people, if you don’t you’re announcing you’re selfish. It has nothing to do with socialism and everything to do with your ego.
