A favorite of the neighborhood.

Sushi Yasaka, Traditional Japanese, 251 West 72nd Street (Broadway and West End Avenue). When Zagat’s called this Upper West Side spot “beloved by locals,” they knew their stuff. We got several excited tips about its reopening last week for takeout and delivery. We haven’t yet been able to get them on the phone to find out their days and hours, but that may be because they ask that you order online. If you know more details, please put them in the comments. “…the food is as good as ever,” raved one commenter. “We ordered today and yesterday for dinner!” (212) 496-8460

Don’t worry, they’re managing partners and married!

Lilly’s, Wine bar and restaurant, quesadillas, tacos, mini meatballs, flatbreads, and more. 50 West 72nd Street (CPW and Columbus.) “We reopened on the basis of the promising statistics and knowledge we and our clientele have now. We can keep each other safe, while together gradually getting our lives back to normal.” Offering new frozen cocktails, full bar including all your favorite wine and beers available for take out. (212) 799-4140

Pearls, Chinese/Asian, 796 Amsterdam Avenue (99th.) Open every day for pickup and delivery, noon to 10 p.m. “Everything is okay,” the woman who answered the phone said.

The Dead Poet, Literary-themed bar with hot dogs and light snacks. Growlers to go! 450 Amsterdam Avenue (81st-82nd.) Open Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 8 p.m. for pickup of pre-made cocktails you can take home and pour over ice, plus wine and beer. “You have to start somewhere,” owner Kevin Cole said. “We miss Upper West Siders. We hope this is a small start to whatever normal will be.” (212) 595-5670

Gebhard’s Beer Culture, Bar, Bottle Shop and Kitchen, 228 W 72nd Street (Broadway and WEA.) “We so open, it’s not even funny…Until 8. Then it’s funny. Fri, Sat, Sun 2-8 p.m. Please stay safe, wear a mask, and practice social distancing.” (917) 639-3420

16 Handles, Frozen yogurt and toppings, 325 Amsterdam Avenue (74th) (646) 861-1281; 2600 Broadway (98th) (646) 422-7022. Both UWS stores are open every day for delivery and pickup from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. To place an order and learn more about curbside pickup, in-store pickup, and home delivery , visit order.16handles.com

The Dead Poet- “pre-made cocktails you can take home and drink over ice”. Correction: “pre-made cocktails you can gulp down on your walk home while attempting to relax”.

My wife and I hold a special place for Dead Poet as it was where we reconnected during our dating years. We are sadly leaving the UWS after 15 years for California for job relocation. We are returning in June to pack up our place and Dead Poet is on our “last place to visit” list. Happy to hear about the take away drinks – maybe they’ll bag some free popcorn to go with!

Yes, one of a few places in the UWS that frequently had lines outside even before the pandemic.

Beacon Hardware on Amsterdam and 77th is open under new management – the same guys who run that great hardware store on 72nd. They have everything!

Is it the same hardware store that moved to 72 street that use to be b/w 78 and 79 0n Amsterdam? They had a beautiful black cat which I believe they relocated to their east side store.

For Gebhard’s Beer, I’m assuming food and growlers of beer to go?

The only bad thing about Sushi Yasaka:
You get hooked on their food and you need your daily fix.

Sushi lovers fyi, we recently took out from Sushi Nonaka (amsterdam around 79-80). Super fresh – def on the spendy side. It was one of those special occasion Omakase places we did not get around to trying before the shutdowns but now they offer more affordable dinner sets to go. You can also order korean fried chicken in the call (from boka upstairs).
