The range of offerings from these reopened restaurants is remarkable, really. You can’t dine out, but you can still feast.

“Thank you so much for sticking with us.”

Mille-feuille, French patisserie/bakery/cafe, 2175 Broadway (77th). We spoke to the barista, Brendanh, when the doors reopened on Friday, May 8th, and the first customers began “trickling in, one at a time,” he said, to sample the French baked goods and pastries: croissants, macarons, Napoleons, cakes & other treats. Open every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for walk-ins and pickups that can be ordered online: millefeuille-nyc.com  (212) 362-6261

”We will try our best to keep you healthy and fed.”

Alachi Masala, Indian/South Asian dining with many vegetarian & tandoori choices, 488 Amsterdam Avenue (84th), reopened on May 7th for pickup and delivery from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. every day. Amin Mehedi, the owner, seemed to speak for all restaurant owners when he said, “We would like to tell our customers that even during quarantine you can still order from us. We are here to keep you fed and help you stay safe. We will try to do our part in helping our community and we kindly ask of you to please help our business in the process. We will safely bring a taste of India to your home!” (212) 874-0737

Noche Mexicana, Authentic Mexican, tequila-spiked drinks, 842 Amsterdam Avenue (101st), reopened a week ago for pickup and delivery, every day from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tell Manager Leon, the Rag sent you. (212) 662-6900

Blossom, Organic vegan cuisine, 507 Columbus (84th-85th), open for pickup and delivery, from noon to 8 p.m. every day. Nicholas, the host, told us they “never closed and have been very busy through the quarantine.”  (212) 875-2600

Buceo 95, Spanish tapas bar, reasonably priced wine, 201 West 95th Street (Amsterdam and Broadway), open every day from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for pickup and delivery through Grubhub and Postmates, offering wine at 50% off, “All the best of health to us all!” (212) 662-7010

Aangan, Indian, lamb chops, chicken curry, spinach and lamb, 2701 Broadway (103rd). The counterman said they never closed and “business is excellent!” Open for pickup and delivery, every day from noon to 10 p.m. (212) 280-4100

Tri Dim West, Chinese, Columbus Avenue (82nd-83rd). “We are happy to announce that Tri Dim West is reopen now for takeout and delivery, Wed – Sunday, 3:30PM-9:00PM. Thank you all.” (212) 585-1398

Harvest Kitchen, American, tacos, burgers, salads, cocktails to go, 269 Columbus (73rd), open every day for pickup and delivery, from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Poly, the manager, told us some days are better than others. “Rainy days are good,” he said. “People order in.” (646) 870-0810

Pisticci
, Italian, freshly harvested organic produce, 125 LaSalle Street (124th and Broadway). This long-standing upper UWS favorite reopened a week ago for pickup and delivery from Tuesday – Sunday, 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. Owner Michael said a lot of the regular customers are coming back. “It’s only a fraction of the business we used to do, but I’m cautiously optimistic that if we can survive this interim period, we’ll be okay,” In fact, they’re stepping it up. Starting this Sunday, Mother’s Day, the hours will be 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. then 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. (212) 932-3500

Hurray for all the restaurants that are coming back! We will redesign our city and respond to this new realty. I applaud the resilience of these business owners and have placed orders with a number of them directly (lets cut out the rapacious middlemen). We live in a mighty city but it is up to us and our own ingenuity to keep it going. And a shout out to the West Side Rag which is helping us to do just that.

I recommend that anyone missing Maison Kayser take their business to tiny Margot — 74th just west of Bdway. Their almond croissant is every bit as good as Kayser’s! And there’s only one location for Margot!

And even though you give up a little ease, ordering directly from the restaurants, on web if they have it or by phone, will help them greatly. As while I love the convenience of seamless and the like, the $ percentage they take from the restaurants is huge
