A 48-year-old man was stabbed to death in an apartment at 646 Amsterdam Avenue between 91st and 92nd Streets on Monday night, and a 44-year-old woman was charged with the murder.

Police got the call at 9:06 p.m. and found the man, whose identity has not yet been released, with multiple stab wounds to his chest in a third floor apartment. He was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital and pronounced dead.

Police arrested Tracy McCarter, who lives in the same building on the second floor. She was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The Post reports that McCarter was the man’s girlfriend, according to unnamed police sources.

According to local news media reports this was a domestic dispute over money.

From the reports, this was mainly a case of domestic violence and domestic abuse:

https://nypost.com/2020/03/03/woman-allegedly-killed-very-drunk-husband-during-fight-in-upper-west-side-home/

In the large majority of murders, the victim and murderer know each other, often are family members or romantically involved.

Murders by homeless people, while they exist, are rare. More frequently the homeless are victims. Much more common are murders within families.

Crime on the UWS is often treated very narrowly on this site. I would like to see an article about how prevalent domestic abuse / domestic violence is on the UWS. there are counselors who deal with the issue all the time, and can give the scope of the problem, without giving names.
