Thunderbirds over New York. U.S. Air Force Photo by Staff Sgt. Ned T. Johnston.
The British Royal Air Force “Red Arrows” will fly over the Hudson River along with the Air Force Thunderbirds and a formation of F-35A Lightning IIs on Thursday morning, as part of an exhibition coinciding with an air show in New York.
The planes will be overhead around 9:30 a.m. “All aircraft will follow the Hudson River down to Liberty Island, then proceed back up the river. The Thunderbirds will return to Rochester International Airport, while the remaining aircraft will recover at Stewart Airport.”
Why are they making this display? Who is interested in seeing warplanes roar by a peaceful city? What are we exhibiting? Alliance with England? How about a nice parade instead?
They are announcing our New Republic and our New Gold Backed Currency. We are out of the grip of Britain and are once again a ‘free nation.’ A War for Independence has been happening in front of our eyes but not obvious so as not to interrupt our routine. You will soon see the meaning of this in your pocketbook!
Also it’s not England it’s Britain. There’s a pretty meaningful difference.
It’s called the United Kingdom. There’s a meaningful difference.
Both are political entities.
Not since 1801.
Actually Great Britain and the UK are applied differently.
Indeed, Great Britain is a geographic entity. the United Kingdom is a political entity. Since allies are political constructs, UK should prevail over GB.
Re: “Who is interested in seeing warplanes roar by a peaceful city?”
Unless you’ve done a survey of ALL 8+ million NYers, you should really, as “Priscilla” told “John”, ‘Speak for yourself’!
If you’re not interested, then simply don’t watch.
Uh Steve, our city is peaceful because of those warplane and the men and women who fly them. These pilots, the US Thunderbirds and the Blue Knights and the British Red Arrows are the best in the world. They are showing off the skills that make our two nations safe. Remember the Battle of London?
We should be honored that they are flying in our city.
Seeing the best of the best of our military aviators fly by the greatest city in the world demonstrating unmatched skill is awesome.
Many people are interested in seeing this. That’s why it is happening. And yes, England is our ally.
” . . . as part of an exhibition coinciding with an air show in New York.”
“British Royal Air Force”?…It’s just called the RAF. Cheers.
It’s called the British Royal Air Force when you’re not in the UK, because: (1) “RAF” isn’t very informative to the general American public; and (2) it’s not the only “Royal Air Force” in the world. Other countries have monarchies and planes.
i think it IS the only RAF in the world. other ‘royals’ are notated thusly: RCAF, RAAF, etc.
Their elite squadron flying team, similar to the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels.
I’mma watch this.
Oh, is this a Boris Johnson/Donald Trump testosterone muscle show? Maybe they should just stick to monster trucks and give us some peace and quiet.
Can I see them by the intrepid?
Steve, those and the men and women who pilot them are exactly why this IS a peaceful city.
I, for one, am pretty in awe of what they do and so appreciative of what they’ve chosen to do for all of us.
I think they are making their Brexit!
Thanks for the replies to my comment/questions. I agree. The alliance of Britain and the US has been long and beneficial, and the piloting skill of our pilots is remarkable. But why do we celebrate the military prowess of the relationship? Is it an indication of something in us, some love of conflict or violence?(And those planes do have accidents, sometimes terrible ones. Parades are safer, too.) Thanks again.
Well, if they’re British, OK.
Glad you enjoyed the visit of the Red Arrows Laura. Long may our two countries remain the best of friends.
