The fire spread quickly through the building.
A fire broke out in a third floor apartment at 229 West 101st Street near Broadway on Wednesday afternoon, drawing a large response from FDNY. The fire was called in at 12:41 p.m. in the seven-story building. It had spread to the fourth floor, according to an FDNY spokesman. From the photo above, it appears that it also spread to more floors above.
One person sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene, the FDNY spokesman said. There were 138 firefighters on scene as of 1:40, but the fire was upgraded to a four-alarm fire minutes later and likely drew an even bigger response.
