With a nod to summer sipping trends, Rosé Friday will be the vinological theme of this year’s Summer in the City Presented by Yelp Reservations, Friday, May 18, from 7-10 p.m. at Taste of the Upper West Side (Taste UWS). The first of the annual two-night culinary fundraiser – now in its 11th year – the event will showcase several different styles of rosé.

West Side Rag readers can get a 20% discount to both nights of the food festival by using the code ragfriends.

Taub Family Companies have expertly curated selections from fine wine estates from around the globe to complement many of the innovative and exciting food tastings being prepared by more than 42 chefs. The lively and sophisticated evening will also include a rousing toast to the evening’s honoree Jacob Hadjigeorgis of Jacob’s Pickles, Maison Pickle and Lucky Pickle Dumpling Co., and musical background created by DJ PHRESH.

Among the many featured labels will be Jean-Luc Colombo Cape Bleue Rosé, Bottega Sparkling Rose Gold and Midnight Black Rosé. In addition to the rosé selections, Taub Family Companies will offer a wide selection of red, white and sparkling wines from both the Palm Bay International and the Taub Family Selections-Esprit du Vin portfolios.

“For over 10 years, Taub Family Companies has been responsible for the wines at our event and, as always, they are meticulously chosen to enhance the gourmet experience,” points out Barbara Adler, Executive Director of the Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District, the 501c (3) that hosts the event. “Adding to the enjoyment is also knowing that the proceeds from Taste of the Upper West Side will continue to help so many local charities and neighborhood beautification programs.”

Ticket prices for Summer in the City by Yelp Reservations are $115 per person; or two tickets for $200. This event and the following night’s programs are once again begin held under a grand, 40-foot high, block-long tent spread across the O’Shea Complex Schoolyard, along Columbus Avenue between West 76th and 77th Streets.

Saturday, May 19 will be highlighted by two distinct celebratory experiences, starting with the Best of the West VIP Reception Presented by 21 West End. An exclusive hour-long preview of the main event from 6:30 p.m. with limited attendance, the VIP Reception includes a special seating area available only to VIP ticket holders through the end of the night, direct access to the chefs before general admission, and early entree to the evening’s food, spirit, wine, and beer presentations. The cost of a VIP ticket is $235.

Saturday night’s main event, Best of the West Presented by Park West Village, starts at 7:30 p.m. and continues to 10 p.m. Among the highpoints of this year’s festival will be the premiere of a dedicated mixology section with one-of-a-kind cocktails created wholly for Best of the West by Manhattan Cricket Club, Da Capo, Amelie, Guyer’s, Maison Pickle, Prohibition, Nobody Told Me and spirit sponsors Tito’s Vodka and Hiro Sake. The evening’s distinguished honoree John Fraser will serve epicurean fare from his Michelin-starred Dovetail. More than 40 other illustrious Upper West Side restaurants will also be providing titillating tastings. Live music returns this year to further elevate the ambiance. Ticket costs for Best of the West are $145 per person; or two tickets for $260. If purchased at the door, tickets are $175 per person.

Also new at Taste of the Upper West Side is a special “Supporter” honorific offered to participants adding $50 on any ticket order. It includes a name listing in the four-page event program, next to sponsors and restaurants.
