People swap clothes at a GrowNYC event.

Earth Day is this Sunday, and there are some special events to celebrate and help the environment.

1. GrowNYC is hosting a free Kids Clothing Swap as a part of the first ever donateNYC Earth Day Fest, also featuring arts and crafts, thrift shopping, an E-waste collection drive, and more!

WHEN: Sunday, April 22, 10am-2pm

WHERE: JCC Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Ave, Manhattan

More info: https://goo.gl/VpeZHf

2. The Museum of Natural History will host EarthFest, which “will immerse visitors in art, science, and culture, and it’s meant to inspire and reenergize conversation and action to protect and sustain our planet.”

A few highlights, via the museum:

  • a performance by the Chelsea Symphony Orchestra of a Pulitzer Prize and Grammy Award winning piece by composer John Luther Adams known as Become Ocean
  • an audience participation piece, “The Umbrella Project,” that illuminates through light and movement the power of collective action, by dance troupe Pilobolus in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life
  • an interactive installation based on artist and former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne’s Reasons To Be Cheerful
  • A celebration of birds anchored by 13 solo piano pieces from French composer’s Olivier Messiaen’s Catalogue D’oiseaux performed every hour throughout the day in the Hall of North American Forests
  • Sets by Chicago City Limits improv troupe that tackle climate change through comedy in the Gottesman Hall of Planet Earth
3. The Grand Bazaar flea market on 77th and Columbus is hosting NYC Earth Day Bazaar all day Sunday. Together with Earth Day Initiative, the Grand Bazaar will allow you to “discover and shop from talented local artists and makers who creatively use recycled materials to make jewelry, fashion, furniture, art, home accessories, and more.”

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
