2. The Museum of Natural History will host EarthFest, which “will immerse visitors in art, science, and culture, and it’s meant to inspire and reenergize conversation and action to protect and sustain our planet.”
A few highlights, via the museum:
- a performance by the Chelsea Symphony Orchestra of a Pulitzer Prize and Grammy Award winning piece by composer John Luther Adams known as Become Ocean
- an audience participation piece, “The Umbrella Project,” that illuminates through light and movement the power of collective action, by dance troupe Pilobolus in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life
- an interactive installation based on artist and former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne’s Reasons To Be Cheerful
- A celebration of birds anchored by 13 solo piano pieces from French composer’s Olivier Messiaen’s Catalogue D’oiseaux performed every hour throughout the day in the Hall of North American Forests
- Sets by Chicago City Limits improv troupe that tackle climate change through comedy in the Gottesman Hall of Planet Earth
I participated played in the first Earth Day and fear that I may participate in the last.
