A perfect illustration of just how much Fairway has gone downhill. In other news, I saw lots of building activity go on at the supposed site for the new Trader Joe’s location at 93rd and Columbus.
There is also much construction at the site of the former West Side Market between 76 & 77th On B’way. They now put in new doors that match the rest of the ones they’ve replaced at the other shops in the Bellclaire. Anyone know if there is a client for that empty space?

Not long ago I saw a sign in the produce department at Fairway for “Muster Greens”

Fairway at 74th is not going downhill, it is at the bottom of the hill just slightly rolling back and fourth. Its so awful there these days. Odd selection of products, over crowded, stock people always blocking products, and less sales then they were having a year or so ago. Oh and not to leave out the general age of the place could use a makeover. Go to Harlem location if you can it lovely.

I think the penny was a clever reference to the price of Fairway stock a couple years back.

The same day lemons were “on sale” at Fairway for 5/$5 they were 6O cents at Zabars and 40 cents at Trader Joe’s. Who are they kidding? I refuse to pay their hiway robbery prices and shop around
You would think prices would be the same but no. The W74th street location is in a more affluent area and they price as such when they can. The home delivery price structure is higher down here for instance.

Hysterical! I love Fairway, the upstairs is essential for those of us who are plant-based/vegetarian, but I bet they would be getting their asses kicked even more if the lines at TJs wasn’t so long ALL THE TIME.

Thank you for posting that photo. I have been railing against these “BIG SALE” signs for quite a while. They are an absolute joke. The service at is still surly and unhelpful. The cheese and fish department employees are the worst. They have cut down on cashiers by about 50%. Lines are longer than ever. And their own branded products–who wants to buy Fairway Prosciutto, Fariway water, fairway canned tomatoes? Not me. There is no track record of quality–its all about profit margin. And the prices just keep going up. Oh, their baked goods are terrible. They don’t even carry Amy’s or Balthazar’s Baguettes anymore–only their own, packaged to look like the others’ and they are terrible.

Just a minuto. What ever the precise issue a/o message here is unclear. I saw that and bought bec what you do not see is them lemons are 100% Organic. Ergo 5×5 = good value price ie decent bargain -not an absurdity. No where else will you find that. Beats even Trader Joe’s a value wise good market. Don’t agree that Fairway is shadow of former self. A wonderful market and a life line on the UWS. Okay I get the joke: $.01 lol. But overall if you try to shop anywhere else partic on UWS you will find implications / critique in this post unwarranted. They are VERY competitive on basic items in geo radius comparison. Plus this home location (incredibly) may not be their most profitable but they don’t pull up stakes during this ongoing plague of UWS ‘gentrifications’. Now go back to Fairway and buy out their Organic lemons on !Sale. Drink 16oz spring water + 1/2 a organic lemon every morning -you’ll live to be older 😀

At least it’s still cheaper than Jubilee.
