MACHETE-SWINGER CHARGED AND CLAIMS SELF-DEFENSE

Louis Roman was charged after being filmed swinging a machete.

Louis Roman, the man arrested after swinging a machete in a fight that was caught on video Wednesday morning, was charged with attempted assault and criminal mischief. He is claiming self-defense, according to a prosecutor who appeared in court on Thursday.

Roman and another man battled early on Wednesday morning on the corner of 94th Street and Broadway. Roman, who lives in the Bronx, works for the MTA guarding employees who get money from the metrocard machines and has authority to carry a gun, but he wasn’t carrying it when he was arrested, according to DNAinfo. But he did flash an ammunition magazine at some during the fight, according to NYPD. The fight apparently started when the other man “crossed the street at Broadway and West 94th Street while talking on his cellphone about 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, police said. Roman got upset when he thought the man wasn’t paying attention and began arguing with him, leading to the tense tangle captured on a video by a passerby.”

Roman’s wife, who was also seen in the video, was injured in the fight too, and needed stitches to her head, according to Roman’s lawyer, the Daily News reported.

“Roman allegedly threatened the 35-year-old garbage can grabber by saying he had a gun in his car — which he didn’t. After the machete swing, he allegedly destroyed the victim’s cellphone by hacking it with the blade on the sidewalk.”

From the sounds of it, this could have been completely avoided had Roman minded his own business and not antagonized the cell phone guy. Sheesh!

The Justice system has vindicated both David Dinkins and Barack Obama. But who will be blamed for the next bad behaviour on the UWS?

Gotta’ blame someone.

Exonerated by who…those two left their offices and its constituents much worse off. Obama was supposed to bring people together but ended up being the great divider.

The Manhattan Criminal Court didn’t consider that David Dinkins or Barack Obama was responsible in any way for this machete attack in any way.

I need to refer you back to “VIDEO: TWO MEN FIGHT ON BROADWAY USING MACHETE, TRASH CAN AND FISTS (UPDATED)” Posted on July 19, 2017.

The Comments were quite a Blamefest. Exonerated by the facts though.

I can’t believe that this hothead is allowed to carry a pistol by the MTA. No mention in the article if he has been suspended.

No doubt the union will get him a good lawyer and he’ll plea guilty to littering for leaving the machete at the crime scent.

Not only that but he has an arrest from 2005 or 2006 that has been sealed. Just like hospital shooter Henry Bello! How did that work out?

The NY Times and Democrat campaign demanding that arrests be sealed because of “disparate impact” are doing an excellent job of making us all quite a bit less safe.

No way someone with such terrible judgment should be getting paid to carry a gun by the MTA. Back to the fare booth with you, buddy.

Good luck with that “self-defense” claim. Almost impossible since he got out of the car to encounter the other dude. Forget duty to retreat…this guy pursued. Should have just stayed in the car, which is always good advice to anyone.

Personally I think he should be charged with attempted murder or at least aggravated felony assault. None of this misdemeanor B.S.!! You don’t swing a machete around at people and think it’s not a big deal. What does he think happens to a person when they get sliced with a machete? No sympathy for this guy but he probably skates from this with a slap on the wrist. Might lose that MTA gig though.

Go back and watch the ridiculous video capturing some of the pathetic fight: these morons deserve each other, and both deserve to be charged. And hey, people staring at their cell phones while crossing the street — sure, it’s a scourge, and an annoying one at that. But Roman, ya had a couple of normal options: 1) roll your eyes, then drive on; 2) beep your horn for .5 seconds (assuming you had the light at that point). Option 1 million: threaten use of force with a gun, scream out your window, get out of car, and by all means, swing and toss a machete before retrieving it and stabbing the offending cell phone.
