Large metal pieces from 404 Riverside Drive at 113th Street tumbled to the ground on Monday, possibly because of a major storm that swept though the area. The chunks of metal were from the parapet, according to Matthew, who sent the photos above and below. Buildings Department records show there was a complaint that said “four pieces of metal fell off the building.”
A storm on Monday caused major damage throughout the neighborhood, toppling trees and causing other building damage.
A complaint to the buildings department when ? Before the incident? How long until the building department is supposed to respond? What is being done immediately to insure people’s safety! Do they teach basic writing skills in school anymore?
“Buildings Department records show there was a complaint that said “four pieces of metal fell off the building.”
Logically, it stands to reason that the complaint (or ‘report’, if you will) was filed AFTER the incident, since Dionne Warwick’s Psychic Friends Network is no longer in operation, and Miss Cleo is now deceased.
Or perhaps they don’t teach critical reading skills anymore either.
Or perhaps the readership here is just neurotic and nasty.
Perhaps all three.
We’re following up on some of those issues. We wanted to get the initial news out fast. WSR
Speaking of basic writing skills, one ought to note that the complaint says “off” the building but West Side Rag says “off of.” Every time your writers make that mistake, I feel the fingernails scratching across the blackboard.
Wow – what were those things when they were attached to the building??
They look to me to be parts of the ornamental cladding from the rooftop cornice.

Thank you; I couldn’t seem to find a picture. I am very glad no one was standing underneath.
Readers: Quit complaining about grammar and typos. Just stop reading and/or commenting. The content is what concerns me. I can’t stand the commenters ugly negativity. From now on I’ll just read the content.
WSR readers make snarky complaining comments even more than the readers of the Times book review. It’s entertaining.
