Police have released two videos that they say show a man wanted for questioning in connection with the stabbing 24-year-old Special Anthony Stewart to death on Thursday night. The only description they are giving for the man is that he is Hispanic.
Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or for Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782)
The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
Can someone help me understand how this video shows the man’s first language is Spanish (and therefore is described as “Hispanic”)?
I consider myself Hispanic (Puerto Rican anscestry) but can hardly speak Spanish…
good lord, how many assumptions can go into one comment? (referring to GG’s comment above):
1) the assumption that Giorgi is Hispanic (or even male)
2) the assumption that Giorgi was “offended”. he /she asked a factual question, and a good one, and did so dispassionately.
3) the assumption that people can “look Hispanic”. i would like to know what that looks like. Hispanics come in all shapes and sizes; from simple looks, it would be hard to distinguish many (most) from whites, African-Americans, even Filipinos, depending on country of origin. for example, the person in the pic could be Middle Eastern or Italian or any number of other backgrounds.
Wow! just WOW!!
You know, you hear about political correctness run amok but you always think they are exaggerating. This is great actually, a real teachable moment if you will. You have gone over the deep end so far that you are confusing yourself.
First of all, are you implying that it is an insult to identify someone as Hispanic, or Asian, or Black or anything for that matter. Can people look Jewish?? and would it be a veiled insult. I’m really curious.
This is getting to the point of hyper-sensitivity. I’m sorry to tell you but some people look Hispanic (if they are lucky) and some people look Asian and some people just look white, black and so on. (This is especially important in the law enforcement and security fields) Sorry, but a human did something to another human just isn’t really efficient.:) But hey, we don’t want to offend this guy on the UWS.
To claim you know all of our secret racial and ethnic biases is just silly and more importantly, you are not serving your cause…you are harming it by acting this way. We are all adults. Act like it.
At the risk of sounding cliche at this point….this is why Trump won. Could you be anymore out of touch? Wait, don’t answer that.:) It’s ok, I love you anyway.
p.s. I just re-read your comment and I won’t even get into the issue of whether we can gender identify him without insulting you…like I said…just WOW
since GG is such an effective “anti political correctness” warrior — at least in his own mind — i would ask him to identify the characteristics that make someone “look Hispanic” or “look Jewish”.
the assumption on gender identity was regarding the commenter (Georgi). that name could be male or female. and of course it is also a screen name.
i pointed out that you made a number of assumptions… which was correct. you did, What was “insulting”, and i didn’t mention, were your snarky comments (“Take it easy, we know everyone is just looking to be offended these days but you should wait until you actually have a reason”) to Giorgi.
And you now followed it up with snarky comments to me (“political correctness run amok”).
well, i never said i wasnt snarky…:)
Probably based on witness testimony describing the argument, not the video.
Although, people can actually look Hispanic, you do accept that, don’t you. Like my ex-wife, thank god..it’s the only reason my kids are so good looking.:)
Take it easy, we know everyone is just looking to be offended these days but you should wait until you actually have a reason.
De acuerdo?? esta bien? bueno, cuidate hermano
The US census classifies “a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race” as “Hispanic”. Aside from that, this video does not show the commission of a crime, which suggests to me that investigators have additional information about the stabbing—and perpetrator—that have lead them to identify this man as a suspect. That information may also have informed why they describe him as Hispanic.
