A man was shot Friday night on the Upper West Side, a police spokesperson confirmed to West Side Rag Saturday morning on the phone.
A 25-year-old man was standing outside of 228 West 63rd Street, between Amsterdam and West End Avenue, when he was shot in the leg, police said.
The victim was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital in stable condition, NYPD added.
Police had no information as of Saturday morning about any suspects or what might have led up to the shooting.

Has the Department of Social Work issued a statement regarding the motive or a description of the perpetrator ergh uh, troubled patient deserving our love and sympathy?
I think there was an ICE protest going on
Friday night on W. 63rd St? I don’t think so. Maybe in lower Manhattan, maybe Sunday on 5th Avenue. What are you on about?
Marty,
If you read the article, there is no description of the shooter for any government authority to share.
Knowing that alternative response is meant to be used in scenarios where the ideal outcome is to connect folks to mental health or substance abuse treatment programs, why would that be relevant here where a violent crime has already been committed?
Oh, right, because you think critical thinking isn’t valuable and it’s easier to strawman public health and safety strategies that are proven to improve outcomes and quality of life instead of meaningfully engaging in policy discussion. Do better.
Nah, I think the point of that comment is to highlight the pov of the average reader here is not focused on the actual problem(them), but instead foists some responsibility for fixing the problem on those who should(us). What % of the city council was reelected? State Assembly? Judges? DA’s?
Because he thinks that any violent crime is an excuse to get snarky about the Department of Community Safety… which, given a moment’s thought, is actually a very good plan and has nothing to do with this case.
These types of comments are so unoriginal and tired. What are you even trying to say?
So the victim won’t give any info on who shot them or why?
Maybe he can’t.
No humans involved.
Scary. I attended the performance at Laguardia last night. Right near there. I hope they catch and prosecute the shooter.
Not in Alvin Bragg Manhattan or Mamdani NYC. Do people understand what they voted for?
He’s been in office less than two weeks. So . . . maybe zip it?
Apparently you don’t. Crime is down and continues to go down,, and yes, in these times. There will always be guns in America, though.
Why not? Surely you know that all categories of violent crime in NYC are down by 80% or more since their peak around 1990, and are down by more than 10% over last year. Compared to other US cities, we’re probably the safest big city in the USA.
What’s not to like?
Has the NYPD arrested a suspect?
Ida, the LAG performance in December of West Side Story was remarkably professional!
I heard that it was terrific and I wasn’t able to get a ticket.
I don’t think it is going to happen. We are supposed to be sympathetic to the perpetrators and their allegedly hard life.
Yikes
I’m a liberal we need to know what we did as a society to cause this.
Where are the Violence interuptors?
Odd hospital choice Mt Sinai West is much much closer
.
Trauma center.
Very apt choice.
As with all of the other victims of violent crimes, that weren’t reported here between Christmas and New Year’s day, he was taken to Morningside because they have a trauma center.
Good day, Mamdanites. Welcome to 2026! I eagerly await the warm embrace of collectivism to rid the streets of anti-social actors.
Why do you folks turn everything into political jabs? A man got shot, and no one knows why. That is not about the mayoral election. Get over it.
When are we going to look at the viability of the Amsterdam houses in their totality? Much like Chicago’ Cabrini Green complex ( that was torn down) these buildings seems to have a very high rate of crime – even compared to other NYSHA buildings- that a special “task force “ or other mechanism should come into play here and try to address this issue. We know this is a problem area – let’s get this done!
Hi, Bob. I’ve lived in the Lincoln Center District for 40 years. I have to admit Amsterdam Houses has caused very little crime compared to other housing developments. It’s not like rich people don’t slaughter each other, dude. Watch a few episodes of “Snapped” or “Forensic Files” and you might learn something. There is no socio-economic bracket that escapes violence.
B,
New York State Housing Authority?
Where you from?
That low income housing complex has has high crime for 40 years.
Nothing like the 70s.
We need to ask what the 25 year old was doing standing outside then. He was probably antagonizing the guy that shot him. Now we’re gonna get flooded with Police agents. Oh, horrible. They’ll be hounding the poor guy that shot him. We need to go out into the streets now and demand the Police leave our City!
What I am trying to say is that these types of interventions have not been proven to be effective in cities of the size, scale and population of NYC. They have also not been “proven effective” in cities with underfunded ineffectual social services that have no realistic prospect of increased funding or improved leadership. Where I find your critical thinking lacking is that you think that taking funds from the demoralized overworked NYPD is going to be the fuel that turns criminals into productive citizens who yearn to fulfill their part of the social contract. Like De Blasio the reality is that this administration is stuck in the magical thinking stage of human development.
