UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE UWS’S NEW PRIVATE SCHOOL OPTION

Amidst a rapidly changing Upper West Side school landscape, parents are increasingly curious about their school options.

Newcomer BASIS Independent Manhattan, sister school to the lauded PreK-12 BASIS Independent Brooklyn school, opens this fall for students in grades K-8 at 795 Columbus Ave. The BASIS network of schools was recently chosen as the first case study representing the United States for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)’s new PISA4U platform, an online, global, collaborative learning program for school improvement.

The recognition of the program as a proving ground for best practices in education is something that students benefit from daily. Says one parent of two young students who attend their PreK-12 Brooklyn campus (which has quickly become a top private school in Brooklyn), “Many schools offer a competitive academic environment, but ultimately the focus on cultivating students’ sense of independence, ownership and, above all, interest in learning helped us choose BASIS Independent Brooklyn for our kids three years ago. It’s a decision we would make all over again today!”

The month of April is filled with unique events to learn more about what BASIS Independent Manhattan offers to UWS families:

  • April 12 – Understanding the BASIS Independent Manhattan Culture of Support: Meet co-founder Dr. Michael Block, named one of Noodle.com’s Most Influential Educators of 2015, and BASIS Curriculum Schools alumni for a discussion on how BASIS Curriculum Schools graduate the world’s best prepared students and those who are happiest with their education. Read more & register here.
  • April 23 – The Science of Cooking: Join their amazing science teachers and BASIS Independent Brooklyn student and MasterChef Junior Contestant Donovan at Le Cirque for cooking demonstrations and hands on lessons showing that cooking is just a tasty blend of art and science. Read more & register here.

BASIS Independent Manhattan joins the family of BASIS Independent Schools campuses – in Brooklyn, Silicon Valley, Fremont, and Northern Virginia – this coming fall with grades K-8. Apply now for fall 2017 admissions.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
