Jacob’s Pickles, among the most popular restaurants in the neighborhood, remains closed more than a month after a devastating fire at 509-511 Amsterdam Avenue between 84th and 85th Streets. And it does not yet have a prospective opening date.
But the restaurant is holding a special fundraiser to help out victims of the blaze. It’s already raising money online at a GoFundMe page, and will hold an event at Maison Pickle at 2315 Broadway (83rd-84th) to support victims on April 26. Tickets cost $100, or $135 if you want a t-shirt too. Get tickets and learn more here.
Jacob’s personnel are still serving food at Maison Pickle, which is also owned by Jacob Hadjigeorgis.
e’s Bar, which was next door to Jacob’s, also remains closed and has also been raising money for victims. That fund was up to $12,635 as of April 5. Bar personnel had raced through the building after the blaze started to help residents.
Residents have not been able to return to their damaged apartments. We wrote about the struggles of one of the victims here. And we recently wrote about five girls at Manhattan Country School who raised money for the victims through a bake sale.
Fundraiser is APRIL 26, not March 26.
Sorry, fixed!
Hope they can make it back soon. They are sorely missed.
100 bucks for anything at Maison Pickle is a deal.
That whole building is shut down, except the falafel place. What was the cause of the fire? And is the landlord helping out with fundraisers?
The falafel place is in the neighboring building, so it didn’t get the water damage that the two larger restaurants did.
The cause was, I believe, faulty wiring.
Don’t know re: landlord.
“Fire Marshals: Cause of 2/24 4-alarm, 511 Amsterdam Ave MN was accidental, electrical extension cord. Smoke alarm present, operational”
Does entry come with a cut the line pass for use on another day?
Is there anywhere to donate clothing or other household items for the families affected by the fire?
