Police are looking for the man shown in the surveillance image above for robbing a 72-year-old woman early Thursday morning on Broadway between 107th and 108th Street. Shortly after 3 a.m., the woman was walking North on Broadway when the man approached her and grabbed her purse. When she fought, he “punched her several times in her face and removed the purse, which contained $250, an iPhone and credit/bank cards,” according to police. He fled east on 107th Street.
UPDATE: Souleymane Diaby, 18, was arrested for punching and robbing a 72-year-old woman last Thursday, according to NYPD.
She suffered lacerations to her mouth and lips and bruising to her face and was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital, where she was treated and released.
In the video below, the man is shown before and after the crime.
The unidentified male is black, in his 20s, 5’3″ and 140 lbs. He was wearing a black bubble jacket over a grey hooded sweatshirt, and dark pants and sneakers.
Surveillance video is attached and available at DCPI. It was taken in the immediate vicinity of the incident location and shows the unidentified male before and after the incident.
Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
Can I ask reporter who identified the man as black? I find when crimes are allegedly perpetrated by black people they are not covered as reported as black. Is this a WSR decision or is it how the NYPD sends the description.
From watching the video It`s pretty obvious that he is Black.
Given to us by NYPD. We always give descriptive information that can help people identify a suspect if it is given to us.
PUT CAMERAS UP EVERYWHERE LIKE IN LONDON. We have the technology, lets use it. And lets put people like this in prison for 20 years.
Agreed. I’ve seen enough BBC crime shows to know that CCTV rocks.
I agree. We need more cameras in the streets, parks, and subways to catch criminals. Probably just a matter of time before they catch this individual, as it is a pretty clear photo.
Let’s all (re-)read Orwell’s 1984 before we sign on to such a simplistic plan for universal monitoring. Safety, perhaps, but at what cost?
“Oh, but that could never happen *here*…..”
a word of wisdom, thanks.
amem sam !!!!!
Sam — you the man.
Just saw the movie “The Patriots”.
Having a camera just about on every corner or by a store is HOW those two animal bombers in Boston were identified.
I’m with Sam. Unfortunately this is how the world is today. We need to help and protect our public. This isn’t “the good old days” anymore.
Jean be careful about calling them animals, according to some on here that is racist, and you’ll be lectured to.
