A man appears to have shot himself in the chest on Tuesday night around 8 p.m. while he was in the woods near Lasker Rink at the northern end of Central Park, police say. The unidentified man was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in critical condition. His family had been in touch with police, according to the Daily News.

“His family and friends had recently notified cops that he was suicidal, and that he had a gun, sources said. Police believe he’s from Tennessee, and are still looking for his car.”

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
