With the approach of winter, visitors tend to ignore the hidden gems in the famous 91st Street Garden of Riverside Park, the community garden on the Promenade level. In spring and summer, passersby gaze in rapture at the blooms. But in December, the garden appears a jumbled mass of tangled grasses and dried stalks. Yet a pause and a close-up look reveal some surprises. Just as showy, but oftentimes minute in size, many of the plants and flowers even in their final senescence display remarkable beauty. Every season here has its marvels, thanks to the Garden People.
One of my favorite spots in the City. Love the Garden People, too. The smiles on their faces when they are tending light up the whole garden.
Glorious in every season. A big thank you to all the volunteer gardeners!
Lovely reminders of the park in the Fall.
Thanks for posting this, my friend. Needed it.
De Blasio is killing the flowers!
Mark, that was hysterical! Thanks a lot for the huge laugh I
got out of it!

Sigh their last hurrah
I love this garden! I miss living so close to it. I used to power walk the park and pass this garden going and coming each day. Always lightened my heart, no matter the season.
Lovely original and unusual photos from the
Park – thank you so much! When there for a
Fall walk, loved the colors of the remaining
leaves, and other richnesses clearly provided
for by the smart planners!
Thanks for the photos. It was nice to see the last blooms, and the Winter colors.
