September 5, 2016 Weather: Cloudy, with a high of 75 degrees.

Notices:
Commemorations of 9/11 and more events this week are on our calendar.

If you’ve received a notice about a “vermin violation” it may be a hoax.

See if you’re eligible for a Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption.

News:
D’Agostino
has received a new credit line from a rival supermarket chain, hopefully leading to more food on its shelves. “John Catsimatidis’ Red Apple chain, which also owns the Gristedes stores, has set up a revolving credit facility for the cash-strapped D’Agostino operation, the company said on Thursday. Red Apple would also weigh a move to move D’Agostino into a joint venture.”

Kids in NYC public schools aren’t getting enough exercise, and UWS schools are some of the worst. “For middle schools, Manhattan’s district 3 – which includes the Upper West Side and midtown west – trailed the pack with 46 percent of students in grades 6 to 8 not meeting state requirements.

Lead tests in city schools may have underplayed the risk because the faucets were flushed for two hours the night before.

Regarding the lack of exercise, DOE can’t have it all ways. They focus all school time on testing, overcrowd the schools so there is only time and space for 1x 45 min of PE per week (and 7 minutes for lunch, etc.), and won’t pay teachers for more than a too short school day. Something’s got to give. In the meantime, our kids suffer. And DOE incurs no consequences???

Re: “Lead tests in city schools may have underplayed the risk because the faucets were flushed for two hours the night before.”

GASP !!!

Does this mean that the Department of Education would CHEAT…TAMPER with a test…FUDGE results…engage in DISHONESTY?!?!?

We are as “shocked, shocked!!” as Captain Renault was about gambling in Casablanca.

Tampering with the lead tests shouldn’t be considered criminal? The report doesn’t say anything about the consequences or what the authorities are doing about it.

@WSR: can you please report further??!! Investigate more? Involve the authorities? That’s the power of journalism.
