The patio at the Boat Basin.

The Boat Basin Cafe in Riverside Park at 79th street opened at noon on Wednesday as the temperatures rose into the 60’s. The balmy weather also brought out various harmonica-players, flower-lovers and dog-photographers.

The Boat Basin is scheduled to be open on Thursday (St. Patrick’s Day), but will be weather-dependent after that. “We’re very much weather permitting at this point,” an employee told us. If it cools down, we’ll be closing.”

I remember when that restaurant was a homeless encampment, some interesting folks who used to lay their bones there. They all got pushed out by the yuppie invasion. Peace to Bernard and all of the inhabitants of the Freedom Tunnel, the real New Yorkers of Riverside Park.

Good Memory Mark , , , I too remember the stench that followed anyone who walked through that area. I remember when the fountain in the rotunda would spring out water 30 feet into the air

Yep that place was scary, filled with the mentally ill.

I don’t know how they ever got rid of that smell.

“Yuppie invasion”? What an idiotic statement. Yeah, lets get rid of the yuppies and bring back the homeless!
