Police are asking for help from the public to find a woman wanted for stealing a credit card at New York Sports Club and using it to shop at Marshall’s and Duane Reade.
The New York City Police Department is asking the public for assistance in identifying and locating a female depicted in the attached photos in connection to two grand larceny incidents which occurred within the confines of the 20th Precinct. Details are as follows:
It was reported to police that on December 9, 2015 between the hours of 1830 to 1945 hours inside of New York City Sports Club gym located at 248 West 80th Street, an unidentified person removed a wallet from the gym locker belonging to a 31-year-old female. Then at approximately 1945 hours, inside of a Marshall’s store located at 2182 Broadway, a female depicted in the photos was seen using the victim’s credit card to make a purchase and at 1956 hours at Duane Reade located at 2148 Broadway another purchase was made.
Person of interest is described as a female Black who is in her mid 40’s, 250lbs, with black hair, last seen wearing a gray winter hat and black clothing.
Anyone with information in regards to these incidents is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential
Yikes! Should have used it to hire a personal trainer. The sports club obviously wasn’t working for her.
This is more than 3 months after the fact. They really need to work a little harder to post pics and info closer to the date the incident occurred.
@jezbel – The delay may be due to the merchants. I had a similar issue recently (identity theft and fraudulent purchases), reported it to the police, and when the detectives tried to get the store video tapes (NYPD was at the store within 24 hours of my reporting, confirmed by the store manager), the store district manager would not release the tapes without a subpeona. Which takes a while to process, apparently (unlike TV). And in the meantime, other cases come up, and the tracking of the case gets further behind, as they are nonviolent, the merchants have insurance, and the credit card customer is not liable for the charges. So you do not have victims jumping up and down. It is unfortunate that the system is stacked against resolving such crimes and that people continue to get away with it.
I wonder, what is the downside to the store immediately making the video available to the police dept.
I have been asked in the past for videos relating to incidents that happened on the street and have been happy to get them to the NYPD as soon as I could.
Well, if she had a gym membership, she would have had her photo taken when she joined. NYSC can easily identify her for the police.
or if she worked there.
Eric, that would involve police work. The 2-0 specializes in issuing street parking tickets; removal of street vendors; and getting their 10% off at Chirping Chicken!
Boop! Pulling their card on a Wednesday, and I haven’t even had my tea yet.
Grand larceny is over $1k stolen at each store. When was the last time anyone buys over $1k at a Duane Reade ? Store should have asked for ID.
Not necessarily. Stolen credit card is automatically grand larceny, no matter what the dollar amount is. Doubtful she spent over $1k.
I’m just shocked that she was able to get through Marshall’s check out line and get to Duane Reade in 11 minutes!
I’ve been a member of several sports clubs. It’s amazing how many members fail to put a lock on their lockers. I’ve inadvertently opened unsecured lockers an uncountable number of times, only to find they were already in use. Caveat emptor!
I had my credit card skimmed and charges showed up for Tiffany (2 charges: one for $5,000 and a second for $4,000) then Macy’s ($2,500) then some designer boutique in SoHo for $4,500. I was notified by text of “unusual activity” and called the bank to confirm the charges were not authorized. I went immediately to police station thinking that quick action could be taken by going to the stores to get evidence. No precinct would take my report as each sent me elsewhere: go to the precinct where the charge occurred or go to the precinct for the area where you live. And it’s true: no loss to me. But SOMEONE bears the cost. Very troubling indeed.
