Among the crimes reported in the past week in the 20th precinct (59th to 86th street) were a grand larceny in front of Artie’s Delicatessen and a large drug swipe at Duane Reade.
- A thief with presumably a heckuva hangover stole 15 bottles of Prilosec and 16 bottles of Nexium from the shelves of the Duane Reade at 380 Amsterdam Avenue (78th) on Sunday, January 31st at 8:00 pm. He topped off his haul with 26 bottles of Advil for a total of $1,100 in stolen goods, and raised his crime from petty larceny to grand larceny. Videos in the robbery have not been released. No arrests have been made.
- A man entered the AT&T store at 2195 Broadway (78th) at 10:20 am on Sunday, January 31st. He was greeted by store employees, grabbed a Samsung Note 5 and a Samsung Galaxy, worth a total of $1,456 and fled. Descriptions of the thief have not been released. No arrests have been made.
- Five pairs of Tiffany sunglasses valued at approximately $1,545 were removed from the shelves of Sunglass Hut, 2218 Broadway (79th), at about noon on January 30th. Surveillance cameras are being reviewed for further information. No arrests have been made.
- An electric motorbike chained and locked in front of Artie’s Delicatessen (83rd) was stolen on January 25th, “in broad daylight,” according to sources. The motorbike belonged to a delivery person working for this popular deli located at 2290 Broadway. The bike is valued at $1,300. No arrests have been made. Update: an employee at Artie’s says the stolen item was a motorbike worth $2,000 that belonged to the delivery man.

Early entry for my favorite Westside Rag URL of 2016. “Trash Mountain” was commendable, too.
There was also a robbery at the 965 Amsterdam Laundromat Monday. Lots of police and detective activity Monday morning when I left for work. Not sure how that’s going.
there is a 1:00 press conference today at city hall to spin how crime is down
Electric bike was illegal…
My reaction as well. ThBose bikes are illegal. Just curious..So Arties they reported the theft of something illegal and the 20th pct. took the report. I’d that what happened?
An employee at Artie’s says it was a motorbike. We’ve updated the story. WSR
I like Arties but I do wish we had a better deli option along upper Broadway. along the lines of 2nd avenue deli.
Don’t overlook Fine and Schapiro on 72nd!
Yes, I “discovered” Fine & Shapiro recently, and it is terrific! Only problem is that it is truly kosher, so a latte sucking brunch afficionado will have to finish the latte before tackling the blini, the chicken soup, the pastrami sandwiches, or any of the other delights . . . . But of course that is an upside for those who keep kosher. They do deliver too.
It’s diatomaceous
Thank God the guardian angels are back , because the mayor and the police commissioner are still trying to figure out how to run a city .
All this recent crime, slashing, robberies and attacks is so upsetting! It’s like we’ve all taken 5 steps back.
The other week I was thinking we needed the Guardian Angels back…and a few days ago Curtis Sliwa announced they’re going to resume patrolling the subways (first time since 1994).
I’d like to know why Police aren’t releasing information about suspects faster and more freely. “Descriptions of the thief have not been released”… ridiculous. Let’s find these people.
Long Story Short, You can blame DiBlasio for “reforming” Rikers, aka, set them free, and handing them guns on the way out.
