Police are looking for suspects in an attack near Columbia on Christmas Day.

116th attack suspectA 34-year-old man was shot and then beaten by eight assailants on West 116th Street between Manhattan and Morningside Avenues at about 1:30 a.m. on Christmas Day, according to amNY. “Cops said that one suspect shot the victim in the right leg, and then the group beat the victim up before fleeing. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.”

Police released the images above of one of the suspected assailants. He’s described as being between 17 and 25 years old, with a scar under his right eye.

Anyone with information on the attack is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.

On Nov. 4, police also reported a mugging on the same block, but on the other side of Morningside Park, according to the New York Post.

Cops are looking for a fearsome foursome of female muggers who attacked a woman and tried to snatch her purse near Morningside Park. One of the women grabbed the 24-year-old victim near the corner of West 116th Street and Morningside Drive on Nov. 4 at about 6:10 p.m. and threw her to the ground, cops said. Another mugger tried to yank away the victim’s handbag, but she refused to loosen her grip and the suspects ran off empty-handed.

This assault/attempted murder happened 3 weeks ago. Nothing like informing the public in a timely manner.

I was just wondering the same thing. Why isn’t NYPD getting the word out earlier? While memories are fresh.

This was reported by The NY Post back then. It’s quite possible that no leads have developed and the NYPD is reaching out to local web forums.

Not that it matters, but 116th St. between Manhattan and Morningside AVENUE isn’t exactly “near Columbia.”

Not that it matters, but “between Manhattan and Morningside Avenues” is correct in this case. Also, close enough to say “near Columbia.”

It may not be close to COLOMBIA, the country, but it’s just a few blocks from the university. Close enough.

So there.

It’s the second incident described, the one up on Morningside DRIVE, that’s (truly) near Columbia.
