Local residents can propose capital projects this month as part of the City Council’s participatory budgeting program. The program allows locals to decide on about $1 million worth of projects in their city council districts — last year the projects that got funded included a mobile food pantry and bus countdown clocks.

This year, there will be meetings in Helen Rosenthal’s district (most of the UWS below 96th street) at the following times and places:

Wednesday, October 7, 6pm-8pm
Goddard Riverside Community Center
593 Columbus Avenue (between 88th & 89th Streets)

Wednesday, October 14, 4pm-6pm
New York Public Library – Riverside Branch
127 Amsterdam Avenue (between 65th & 66th Streets)

Thursday, October 22, 6pm-8pm
Hargrave House
111 West 71st Street (between Columbus & Amsterdam)

Saturday, October 24, 2pm-4pm
New York Public Library – St. Agnes Branch
444 Amsterdam Avenue (between 81st & 82nd Streets)

Wednesday, October 28, 6pm-8pm
The Marseilles
230 West 103rd Street (at Broadway)

Rosenthal has more info on it here.

In Mark Levine’s district (above 96th street), the next meeting will take place in two weeks:

Wednesday, October 21st
6-8pm
St. Michael’s Church
225 W 99th St
New York, NY 10025

How about getting rid of this whole slush fund by another name and force the city council to do its job by passing actual spending bills, instead of naming streets for soviet spies, domestic terrorists and promoting silly progressive check items.

Re: “naming streets for soviet spies, domestic terrorists….”

SPECIFIC EXAMPLES, PLEASE !!
WHICH “SOVIET SPIES” ON WHICH STREET(s)?
WHICH “DOMESTIC TERRORISTS” ON WHICH STREET(s)?

B/T/W: Congratulations! You’ve obviously re-awakened the ghosts of McCARTHYISM*, and on the UWS, yet!

*look it up if you’re too young to remember

why would I need to look this up just because I’m too young to remember it happening? There are these places called universities (you can look them up online if you don’t remember seeing one or going to one) that offer history classes where you can learn about things that happened before you were cognizant of the world! It’s amazing. You should try it 🙂

I believe the last time we were presented with this ‘opportunity’ somehow the Upper West Side voiced the opinion, under the leadership of Helen Rosenthal, that an obscenely large amount of money should be allocated to the construction of count down clock displays for the M86 bus at each stop. These kiosks were installed last spring and operated for approximately two weeks before going dark. They have remained non-functional and dark for months. Nice use of the funds Helen. This disrespect for the funding, combined with the rude and dismissive staff in your Columbus/87th Street office virtually insures you 15 minutes is almost up.

I have been to her office many times and cannot believe how rude and unhelpful her staff is when confronted with a voter. OK, I did not vote for her, but still. In the 1980’s I worked for a Congressman and saw first hand how a staff is supposed to take the concerns of the voters. She will sadly win again, only because of the (D) at the end of her name.

Hmm, $1 million? That could buy a lot of meals for the homeless in the neighborhood. I think that would be the best use of the money, rather than some vanity projects (face facts that’s what this is about) for Helen Rosenthal and Mark Levine.
This charade is just another form of vote buying by the useless turds in the City Council, who by the way are paid over $100K/year for what is in effect a part time job.

Whoooo, I have found HR staff quite responsive both by phone and in person.

We need reform of the city animal shelter system. No one seems to care, animals dying every night DiBlasio has amnesia when it comes to campaign promises. Come on Helen, stand up for the animals.

Just a quick FYI Helen’s district does not stop at 96. It goes up to 109th street along RSD, WEA and parts of B’way. Levines district is east B’way and north of 96.
